Enola Holmes (review here) is a Netflix original movie that stars Stranger Things sensation – Millie Bobby Brown. The Netflix original film is soon turning itself into a franchise. It seems like Millie Bobby Brown is the saving grace of Netflix as both of her collaborations with the streaming giant has turned out to be successes. Everyone knows about Stranger Things but Enola Holmes too performed very well and Netflix was impressed by its performance. The film too gathered a little fan club that led Netflix to greenlit a sequel. The first film came out in September 2020. Brown’s performance as Sherlock Holmes’ sister was praised. I found her performance to be inspired but the overall story of the film was kind of bland. The themes of the film are excellent.
The misogyny in the era the film is set in, the appreciation Sherlock gets while Enola is always ignored is handled really well. From that perspective the film makes an extremely strong statement. However, if the overall story of the film would’ve been more interesting, the film would’ve worked better. Although, all is well that ends well. Netflix has ordered a sequel and recently the filming for the same concluded. We were getting sparse updates about the sequel but today Netflix has released the first poster for the sequel.
Enola Holmes 2: New Poster has New Details?
Apart from Brown’s Enola Holmes, Superman actor Henry Cavil plays Sherlock Holmes in the Netflix film. The first film ended on a note that has a very inviting nature. The first film’s ending was more complete if you know there’s sequel in the works. The director of the original film Harry Bradbeer is returning back to helm the sequel. The poster revealed by Netflix is done really well. Firstly, the artwork suits the vibe of the franchise. It looks like a busy street in London where our favorite characters including but not limited to Cavil’s Sherlock and Brown’s Enola are scattered across this streets.
We see some returning characters while we also get our first look on the newcomers. I hope the sequel pays more attention to the story while maintaining its thematic weight. The caption of the post shared by Millie Bobby Brown says “Tis who?” which is a clear call back to the first film, where Enola is constantly addressing herself as such. The sequel is supposed to answer all the unanswered questions left by the first film. Take a look at the poster here:
Henry Cavil who plays Sherlock Holmes posted Instagram where he gave us updates on the sequel, “Hey, everybody! Today was my last day on Enola Holmes, and the entire day I was thinking about not coming out and doing this run. It was a little dark and a little chilly, and I was convincing myself all day long that those are all good reasons not to run. However, I came out here, I did it, I have loved it, and it feels really, really good. So if you’re sitting at home thinking about not training today, throw those trainers on, get out there and do it. You won’t regret it.”
The director to both the films expressed his excitement as he is returning, “I’m excited about the other things that she’s going to do,” Bradbeer told Decider last year. “She’s such an extraordinary character that we’re going to dig out some more secrets about her. If we do go again, there’s a lot of issues left in this dysfunctional family. Not only in the country, which is dysfunctional, but the family as well. I think it will always be leaning into real historical accuracy, about the history of the constitution and the development of our democracy. And of human rights, not just women’s rights. I think that’s a very ripe scene to plow. Because if you have an adventure film that has something interesting to say morally, I think that really enriches it and makes it more nutritious.”
Enola Holmes stars Millie Bobby Brown in the titular role and along with her Henry Cavil as Sherlock Holmes. Most of the cast from the first film is returning like Louis Partridge as Tewkesbury, Helena Bonham Carter, Adeel Akhtar and Susan Wokoma are back. However, they’re not alone as there are some new faces joining the world. The new additions include Sharon Duncan-Brewster, David Thewlis, Hannah Dodd, Abbie Hern, Gabriel Tierney and Serrana Su-Ling Bliss.
Enola Holmes 2 doesn’t have a release date yet but it is supposed to come out on Netflix in Late 2022.
