Who knew Heartstopper was going to be as amazing as it was when it came out last year. While most of the viewers checked it out because it shared quite a few similarities with Sex Education, Heartstopper built a tremendous fan base since it was released. So much so that I, personally, was a hell lot more excited for Heartstopper season 2 than Sex Education season 4 and boy, did that pay off! Standing true to its title, both seasons of the show literally make your heart skip a few beats. Furthermore season 2 (review here) took everything you loved about the first one and enhanced it with terrific writing, cheerful music, as well as a well paced and personal narrative. Although it just came out a couple of months ago, fans can’t wait for season 3 and that is what this article is about!
Heartstopper Season 3 Release Date and Confirmation
To fans’ delight Heartstopper Season 3 was confirmed back in May 2023 even before Season 2 came out. This comes as no surprise though, as Heartstopper is one of the highest rated and critically acclaimed series of all time standing at an approval rating 0f 98% on RT after two seasons. It is also the highest rated LGBTQ+ show ever made, so the only question we need to ask is when it will return? Well, the good thing is that the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes at Hollywood have nothing to do with it as Heartstopper is a UK production!
Furthermore, earlier this month, Netflix already confirmed that Heartstopper Season 3 has already begun filming! That aside, What’s On Netflix also shared the first look at Season 3 set photos, showing the cast filming scenes at a beach at Lyme Regis in Dorset, Wales. As you may know, Season 2 filmed from September 2022 to December 2022. So, it safe to say that the filming for season 3 would also wrap up by December 2023 or max January 2024. This means we’ll see Heartstopper Season 3 release by Summer 2024 itself. For reference, Season 1 released in April 2022 and Season 2 in August 2023, so, season 3 would most likely release within the same time frame of 2024.
Season 3 Cast and Plot
Heartstopper Season 2 ended with Joe Locke’s Charlie almost saying “I love you” to Kit Connor’s Nick. We also see Nick coming out to everyone and explore a budding relationship between Elle and Tao. But since now our leads are growing up, they face a big challenge which is test of all their relationship’s as they’ll soon move to college. Heartstopper Season 3 will follow Volume 4 whose synopsis is, “Charlie and Nick’s relationship has been going really well, and Charlie thinks he’s ready to say those three little words: I love you. Nick feels the same way, but he’s got a lot on his mind. As a new school year begins, Charlie and Nick will have to learn what love really means.”
Now let us about one character who won’t return in Season 3 aka Ben Hope portrayed by Sebastian Croft. Ben apologized to Charlie in Season 2 but his apology wasn’t accepted and Ben surely won’t get a redemption arc. Croft said, “Alice and I both felt strongly about him not having a redemption arc. It’s a really beautiful way of having these two people who have been through a lot – and Ben’s been horrible to Charlie – to have that conversation and explore it on a deeper level than I felt like we got to do in season one.” As for the cast of the season 3, we’ll most likely see the following members:
