Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is a new Netflix show based on the real story of Jeffrey Dahmer’s life who was a serial killer and sex offender. He committed the murder and dismemberment of seventeen men and boys between 1978 and 1991. He was also known as as the Milwaukee Cannibal or the Milwaukee Monster. Dahmer’s life has had various adaptations in Hollywood, some were well created, others were simple cash grabs. However, it looks like Netflix’s version is one of the better ones. It is cruel, disturbing and horrifying. Evan Peters (American Horror Story, Mare of Easttown, X-Men: Apocalypse) is a massively popular TV star with undeniable talent, so watching him embody such an infamous figure is intriguing to say in the least.

Peters’ portrayal of Dahmer and Monster’s graphic dramatizations of his murders are the most appealing factors for true crime fans interested in the show. Despite the slump that Netflix has been in it looks like the streaming giant has found hope with their new releases. Netflix’s new true crime drama Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has become their biggest hit since Stranger Things 4 and has one of the biggest shows of all time.

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story Has Given Netflix a Moment of Relief!

Netflix has been losing subscribers for a while now but the return of their fan favorite shows seems to rejunivate the numbers momentarily. While that is great news the problem is that this kind of success doesn’t last year long and all the fan favorite shows have an expiration date. The new content that Netflix churns out has to lure the audiences in as well. That is where Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is so important for Netflix. Its a true crime Netflix original that has worked wonders for Netflix. How well has it worked? Let’s look at the numbers.

According to the TVLine, Nielsen charts which has now become the standard ratings website has reported that Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has topped the Nielsen chart for the week with an unbelievable total of 3.7 billion minutes watched. Given that the Nielsen charts have only begun recording streaming numbers for just over two years, Dahmer has become the tenth-highest streaming number they have ever recorded. However, its not the highest.

As its incredible run has been surpassed by other TV shows like Netflix’s own properties- Tiger King and Ozark two times apiece and Stranger Things five times. Netflix has always found success in true crime shows. All year long they’ve been getting success from shows like Bad Vegan: Fame. Fraud. Fugitives., and their fictionalized Inventing Anna, which stars Julia Garner as Anna Delvey. However, it felt like they’re consciously avoiding murders and focusing on tricksters.

However, with Monster that streak is broken and the audiences have just gotten what they were looking for. It seems like coupled with the Halloween time and Ryan Murphy’s flair for telling a real life story of criminals into fiction format has worked wonders for Netflix. Along with Evan Peters, the cast includes Richard Jenkins, Michael Learned, and former Brat Pack star Molly Ringwald.

All episodes of Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
