Rebel Moon Director's Cut!

After Army of the Dead, Zack Snyder hasn’t made any movie. 2021 was a good year for the filmmaker as he released two ventures -Army of the Dead and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The director was rendered helpless by Warner Bros. before his fans came to his rescue. It seemed like after Warner Bros., Snyder found his home at Netflix as the director collaborated on multiple big budgeted ventures with the streaming giant. He started his own Zombie universe which is expected to expand in the coming years. However, along with that Snyder also made his dream project with Netflix called “Rebel Moon”. This planetary saga is supposed to be Snyder’s rendition of Star Wars. The veteran filmmaker had also pitched the project to Disney but the studio turned it down.

Now that the film has released and crashed critically, we can understand why Disney didn’t want anything to do with it. However, the released version is PG-13 and Snyder is known for his explicit violence and nudity. So, there was always going to be a director’s cut that is supposedly better. Well, when will it release? Let’s find out.

Rebel Moon Director’s Cut Isn’t Releasing Anytime Soon!

Speaking with DGA Director’s Cut podcast, Snyder revealed to fellow director and moderator Louis Leterrier that his much anticipated R-rated version of Rebel Moon Part One will release this summer, after Rebel Moon Part 2 comes out. The Justice League director didn’t mention any month or date. It has been a while since Snyder has been hyping up his version extremely R-rated version Rebel Moon. Additionally, Snyder also revealed during the podcast that Netflix didn’t want to make his 200 page script and forced him to divide it into two parts,

“They read the script. Obviously, it was an R-rated script, it was 200 pages the first time [they read it], and they were like, ‘you weren’t kidding!’ when I handed them this phone book of the script,” he said. “And they said, ‘200 page script, huh? Obviously, we’re not making a script into a movie, especially not this crazy, R-rated [thing]. You basically made a live-action Heavy Metal movie, and everyone’s like naked, this is crazy.”

Snyder is not only directing the film but has also taken some writing responsibility as he is co-writing the screenplay of Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad. The film is also based on Kurt’s original story. The film’s cast includes Djimon Hounsou, Sofia Boutella, Ray Fisher and Ed Skrein. Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon will release in two parts. Part 1 – The Child of Fire is available for streaming on Netflix and Part 2 – The Scargiver will release on the streaming giant on April 19th 2024.
