Stranger Things Craze Pushes Kate Bush's Single 'Running Up That Hill' to No.1

Stranger Things has become a pop culture phenomenon in no time, but the beloved sci-fi series is actually influencing, in other words its in-turn impacting pop culture of the past. The season 4 of the Netflix show which debuted last week on May 27, pays tribute to Kate Bush and her 1985 single, ‘Running Up That Hill’ in the fourth episode of the season titled ‘Dear Billy’, which also seen a powerhouse acting performance from one of the series leads, Sadie Sink. Running Up That Hill tops iTunes

Stranger Things season 4 has catapulted the Kate Bush[‘s single to No.1 on iTunes charts. It’s currently at 106 on Spotify’s top 200 with 1,099,174 plays. In addition, Google search traffic has also reached peak for the song since the release of Stranger Things. The song is also the first single of Kate Bush’s fifth album, ”Hounds of Love” released in 1985 and became the biggest hit of the era for Bush, hitting No.3 on UK’s Singles charts and 30 on Billboard Hot 100. Bush also released a remix version of the song that peaked both Irish and UK Singles chart at 22 and 6 respectively. It took 37 years for the song to top again as No.1 in digital era on iTunes chart.

Stranger Things Season 4 soundtrack also contains throwbacks to other 80s era hits like “California Dreamin’” by  Beach Boys, “Psycho Killer” by Talking Heads and “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)” by Dead or Alive. The whole season 4 soundtrack of Stranger Things currently sits at No.5 spot on iTunes Top 200 Albums.  Previously, The last season finale of Stranger Things also helped push the theme song of 80s fantasy hit film The Never Ending Story to have a short revival, with YouTube revealing at that time the searches for the music video increased 800% after the season 3 episodes release.

When exactly does Kate Bush’s single appear in Stranger Things?

The song first appears initially in the premiere episode of season 4, when Max(Sadie Sink) listens to it on Walkman while strolling through the school hallways. The song again returns in Episode 4, when Max finally moves over her grief and tries to escape the Upside Down dimension. It’s also revealed to be the favorite song of Max.
