The Witcher Season 3 is now almost complete and will debut next year. If our guess is correct, it might be ready to release by May, 2023, and as of now all eyes are on The Witcher: Blood Origin which is all set to debut this fall (possibly December 2022). Also, just a few months ago, CDPR also announced a new Witcher game with Witcher 3 next gen update also coming up soon. That aside, a new Witcher anime film called The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep was also leaked. So, The Witcher Universe is in full swing and today we have some good news for the fans of the Netflix show as it has officially wrapped filming.
Season 3 Release Date, and BTS Revealed
At Netflix Tudum Event, Henry Cavill took the stage and announced that The Witcher Season 3 would be coming in Summer 2023. Later his co-stars Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan took over in a behind-the-scenes video recorded in June at Longcross Studios, which you can check out right below. The filming for The Witcher Season 3 was wrapped earlier this month, but that does not mean that the show is ready as there is still the long post-production stage left. The Witcher season 3, much like season 2, would require some great CGI and editing work and of course, there is always a possibility of certain reshoots. However, just as we predicted in our last post, even if it undergoes no reshoots it will not be ready before mid 2023. The Witcher Season 3 will be based on the novel The Time of Contempt (Book #2 from The Witcher Main Saga) and may also include certain events from Baptism of Fire (Book #3). The plot summary as officially revealed by Netflix reads as follows:
As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever.
The Witcher Season 3 Confirmed and Expected Characters
First of all, every surviving character from season 2 will appear in Season 3. Secondly, some of the dead characters will reprise their role as flashback sequences. Lastly, some new characters will be joining the cast as the Witcher world will expand further in Season 3. We’ll be provided a much deeper look into the Chapter and introduced to a lot of new sorceresses including Keira Mitz, Phillipa Eilhart (brief cameo in Season 2), and possibly Sheala de Tancarville.
That aside, we will also be introduced to new characters from Nilfgaard including Tawny Owl, Seneschal Ceallach, and Vattier de Rideaux. The Rats including Iskra, Mistle, Kayleigh and the others will appear as well. We will also see the fav-favorite character Milva aka Maria Barring, probably towards the end of the season. Latly, since Netflix has the tendency to introduce stuff way before they were introduced in books, we might even see the most beloved non-Geralt Witcher universe character – Regis the higher Vampire.
The Witcher Season 3 is all set to arrive in 2023 and you can check all of The Witcher Season 3 BTS and leaks so far.
