The Crown Season 6 Plots

The Crown Season 6 will not only be Netflix’s series’ most relevant, but also the most controversial production. Since the launch of the fictional drama in 2016, each five seasons spanned an era of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. Set to release later this year, the sixth and final season of The Crown will be its most modern retelling yet. This season will highlight the most impactful events of the royal family.

In Season 6, the future of the British crown, Prince William, and his wife’s past will be on display. Season 6 is releasing amidst his feud with his brother, Prince Harry, and his sister-in-law Meghan Markle. How the display of these events in The Crown Season 6 will affect public viewpoint is unknown. Not yet confirmed, however, other events have been speculated to be on the show. It includes the death of Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother, Prime Minister Tony Blair’s tenure and the Good Friday Agreement, and Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee.

Princess Diana’s 1997 Summer

The Crown Season 5 concluded with Princess Diana accepting Mohamad Al-Fayed’s St. Tropez vacation invitation. It set the stage for her romance with his son Dodi Al Fayed. And, their car crash incident on August 31, 1997. In November 2022, Elizabeth Debicki (playing Princess Diana in Seasons 5 and 6) was spotted filming the Mediterranean cruise scenes.

College Years of Prince William And Princess Kate

The Crown moving closer to the present-day events, Prince William is receiving major focus with two actors confirmed to be playing his role. Rufus Kampa is portraying 15-year-old William dealing with his mother’s loss. Ed McVey is playing Prince William’s role during his college years at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. In the final season, the show will deal with the early days romance and marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton (Meg Bellamy).

Princess Diana’s Death

In October 2022, Deadline confirmed The Crown is filming the tragic death of Princess Diana in the Paris car crash incident. Peter Morgan, the series creator confirmed the crash itself will not be shown. Instead, the show will film the incidents before the accident and the aftermath of it. One source of the series production opened up regarding this tragic storyline. “We’ve been dreading getting to this point. The countdown is two weeks and while we’re calmly carrying on it’s fair to acknowledge that there’s a certain anxiety; a palpable sense of being slightly on edge. I mean, there’s bombshell sensitivity surrounding this one.”

A Royal Wedding

In September, Netflix posted a picture of a royal wedding invitation, confirming the inclusion of the 2005 wedding of King Charles and Queen Camilla. Via Variety, Claudia Harrison, the actor playing Princess Anne shared the wedding was the last scene the cast filmed. Their marriage didn’t have the traditional spectacle of a royal wedding, it was a civil ceremony. Needless to mention, it was the heir’s second and most controversial marriage. Earlier this year, Charles and Camilla’s wedding again became headlines after Prince Harry’s memoir Spare came out. In the memoir, Prince Harry confessed to asking his father not to remarry.

The Crown Season 6 arrives on Netflix later this year.
