Netflix has a new hit show called Wednesday which belongs to the comedy supernatural, that focuses on a character from The Addams Family lore- Wednesday Addams. The Addams Family started out in 1964 as a sitcom that ran for two seasons. It was created by American cartoonist Charles Addams. After the success of the show the audiences were fond of the characters as they were quirky and weird. From the television spawned three Addams Family movies. The movies came out almost 30 years after the television series had ended. The first film came out in 1991, and they had a lukewarm response at best. Now 24 years later, Netflix decided to adapt a character from the Addams Family into a TV show and it looks like this might’ve been the smartest decision they’ve taken in a while.
The show has become a critical success and the audiences love it as well. The show has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 71% and an IMDb rating of 8.7/10. Jenna Ortega’s portrayal as Wednesday has taken over the world. The series can’t stop breaking records and it now stands as the third most watched show on Netflix after Stranger Things 4 and Squid Game. If it plays its cards right then maybe, it might even surpass ST. Here’s the complete list:
Squid Game (season 1) — 1.65 billion hours
Stranger Things (season 4) — 1.35 billion hours.
Wednesday — 1.2 billion hours
Dahmer — 856.2 million hours
Money Heist (part 5) — 792.2 million hours.
Bridgerton (season 2) — 656.3 million hours
Bridgerton (season 1) — 625.5 million hour
Money Heist (part 4) — 619 million hours
Stranger Things (season 3) — 582.1 million hours
Lucifer (season 5) — 569.5 million hours
Naturally after such overwhelming success of the show, everyone was wondering whether Wednesday would return for a second season? Netflix just gave us a confirmation on that.
Wednesday Season 2 Confirmed by Netflix!
Tim Burton’s reimagining of the Addams’ Family has created quite a storm around the world and it was clear that after this unsurmountable success of the show that it would return. The debut season of the series has surpassed viewership numbers of season 3 or 4 of other Netflix series, this shows the insane amount of audience that the show has gathered. Even Stranger Things reached the 1.35 Billion hours point in its 4th season. If the first season was so successful then we can only imagine what will the second season do.
We were told that if Wednesday was to return for a second season then the announcement will come in early 2023, and that time is here.

The way Season 1 of Wednesday ends, it is clear that the writers already have an idea of what’s to come in the second as the set-up for the big bad is already done. As Wednesday was on her way home, she received a message from an unknown sender, stating that they were “watching” her – whoever her new stalker is, they are likely going to be the new villain. Season two will also bring a new headmaster for the Nevermore Academy after the tragic death Principal Weems in season one. This could result in some new conflicts.
It is possible that the first few episodes of Wednesday Season 2 will start during the school break, which would increase the Addams Family involvement in the show and we will see more of the dynamics between these exotic characters. Considering the buzz for the show I think it is safe to assume that Wednesday may become Netflix’s next flagship show with Stranger Things ending in its next season. We might see Wednesday becoming a franchise just like Stranger Things. Wednesday won’t return to Netflix till late 2024.
All eight episodes of Wednesday are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
