Along with Percy Hynes White’s exit from Wednesday Season 2, the Jenna Ortega starrer was recently making headlines because of a slip up from its costume designer who accidentally revealed that the sequel season will finally feature the infamous Addams Family Mansion. We only got a little glimpse of the structure in Season 1. The hype of the show is at an all time high but unfortunately, the show will inevitably be delayed thanks to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Before the strikes, the show was on track but now there is no telling. Amidst this chaos, Wednesday creator, Tim Burton was nice enough to provide us with an update about the upcoming Wednesday Season 2.
Wednesday Season 2: Tim Burton Praises Jenna Ortega!
Legendary director Tim Burton spoke to TBI, where he gave us an update about the upcoming Wednesday Season 2. Burton shared, “I mentally put stuff on hold until all the strikes are over. I can edit and do things I can do, but until the veil is lifted, then things get back into it. But yeah, I’ll be involved in some [way]. I’m not quite sure, because everything has stopped at the moment.”
He further added, “When I did ‘Wednesday,’ the reason I loved it is I just related to the character so much. But to me, it could not have been done without her. You can write it good, you can do whatever you want to do, but that kind of a character would need such clarity and purity and strength. A person has to have that. So for me, she basically made the show that way.”
To conclude, Burton reserved special praise for the show’s star – Jenna Ortega, “She’s one of the most aware, not only as an actress, but everything, around the camera, the set. She’s a very special talent. And she’s done a lot of horror movies, which I love too. That gave her a special place in my heart. ‘Oh, you’re doing another horror. Good.'”
Before the strikes, in April, Jenna Ortega gave a statement to Glamour where she talked about how the sequel season is right on track, “No vacations or anything like that. We are starting to prep Season 2 of ‘Wednesday,’ which…has been exciting. Just developing new storylines and seeing where characters are going. Starting those conversations has been really, really fun. I think it’s going to be bigger and better, which is cool.”
Jenna Ortega leads the cast with amazing support from Christina Ricci, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzman, Gwendoline Christie, Emma Myers, Isaac Ordonez, Hunter Doohan, Fred Armisen, Georgie Farmer and Percy Hynes White. All eight episodes of Wednesday are currently available for streaming on Netflix. Season 2 doesn’t have a release date yet but is expected to release sometime in mid-late 2024.
