Criminal Minds Paramount+ Finally Confirms Series Revival

The “Criminal Minds” revival is finally advancing at Paramount+, about a year and a half after the venture was first announced. The long-running CBS procedural has received a 10-episode order from the streaming service. The project was first mentioned in development in early 2021; however, later that year, series actor Paget Brewster indicated on social media that the project appeared to be “dead”.

For the revival, Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Adam Rodriguez, and Paget Brewster will all be back, with more cast members to be revealed later. In the new series, an UnSub who has created a network of serial killers during the pandemic poses the greatest threat yet to the FBI’s elite team of criminal profilers. The network is now active as the world starts to open again, and the squad must find them one murder at a time.

The new series’ showrunner, executive producer, and writer is Erica Messer, a veteran of the franchise. Breen Frazier and Chris Barbour will serve as writers and executive producers. Mark Gordon will also act as executive producer, and Glenn Kershaw will direct and executive produce.

According to Nicole Clemens, president of Paramount+ Original Scripted Series, “For 15 seasons, ‘Criminal Minds’ was at the forefront of cutting-edge scripted drama as it explored the psychology behind crime – thrillingly. The series never stopped evolving during its run, and we are beyond excited to bring it back into a new era with new stories for a new generation of viewers at Paramount+. Erica, the whole cast and the creative team, are building a season full of new twists that we are sure will electrify audiences.”

Created by Jeff Davis, Criminal Minds is one of Paramount Global’s most coveted shows in the streaming era. It debuted in 2005 and ran for 15 seasons and 324 episodes, remaining one of CBS’ most watched shows for most of its run. The show’s run on the network ended in February 2020.

Stars like Mandy Patinkin, Shemar Moore, Matthew Gray Gubler, Thomas Gibson, Lola Glaudini, and numerous others were also a part of the original series’ cast. Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders are two spinoffs that sprang from the show.
