Dungeons and Dragons is a tabletop game that includes roleplaying. The game was created by Gary Gygax and was released in 1974. However since the original release various iterations of the game have come out. The game is very successful and famous till this day. It is in the classic tier of games. Given the popularity of the game and the subject matter it has i.e., a diverse selection of dangerous creatures/monsters, magic and heavy lore, the game was adapted into a film in 2000. Least to say the film wasn’t great but it did get two sequels, one was a made for TV movie and the other was a direct-to-DVD film. The films came out in 2005 and 2012 respectively. The game recently popped back into pop culture conversations after its heavy inclusion in Netflix’s retro fantasy- horror series Stranger Things.
After the 2012 film it seemed as if the cinematic wing of the franchise had gone dry. The new project Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves was stagnant in its production for quite a while now but the film has finally broken its shackles and will release next year. The film is directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. The film is penned by Daley and Goldstein along with co-writer Michael Gilio. As this week kicks off Comic Con we’ve gotten our very first look at the film.

As we’ve not gotten any major updates and leaks regarding the film, the plot and character of the film are under the wraps. We only know one thing is that each cast member will play D&D. Although, now that the first look is out, the characters and their wardrobe does suggest that the characters are based on D&D archetypes. Pine’s character is like a bard as he is playing a lute as if its an electric guitar. Rodriguez’s character is like a warrior, suggestive of her performance style.
Page’s character maybe a rogue as he has a weapon which is smaller and more agile. Lillis and Smith’s characters are responsible for bringing in the magic. Grant’s character seems to be a sagacious professorial type. We hope as the days go by and the release date of the film nears, we’ll get more information about the film and a full trailer.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is slated to release on 3rd March 2023.
