“We can confirm that Snowpiercer will end after a successful, multi-season run on TNT. Its talented writers, actors and crew took an extraordinary premise and brought it to life in thrilling ways. Snowpiercer Series Premise
The series which is actually set in the different universe than Bong Joon-ho’s film of the same name which released in 2013 and starring Chris Evans, follows a similar premise. The story follows the last remnants of human civilization seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland inhabiting a perpetually-moving train that circles the globe, where class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival play out. Both the film and the show were based on the 1982 French graphic novel Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob to a certain extent. The show also takes element from the sequel novels.
The show had a troubling production since from its inception with Josh Friedman originally hired as showrunner and Scott Derrickson, the director of Dr.Strange had filmed the pilot. But due to creative differences between the network executives and Friedman, the pilot was shelved and TNT brought Graeme Manson(Orphan Black) to handle the show. Derrickson also left the project with discontent over the network’s decision and didn’t return to direct the pilot.
Season 4 of Snowpiercer is going to have a new showrunner Paul Zbyszewski, who previously worked on Agents of Shield series. There’s currently no release date set for the final season but the show is expected to return some time around the end of this year.
