Peacock’s The Continental is a spin-off of the four-film John Wick saga. It is a prequel to the John Wick films, decades before the events of the first movie featuring Keanu Reeves. During the time of The Continental, Reeves would still be a child which would make it nearly impossible for his character to reprise the role. ‘The Continental’ – Release Date and Time
The Continental took place in NY during the mid-1970s. Wick would have been alive during this time, however young, living out his days in El Sauzal or Belarus. The story focuses on the other side of North America, during the sanitation strike. The economy was suffering and the city laid off roughly 3,000 sanitation workers. In response to that, another 10,000 workers went on strike. Crime had been at its peak for decades and wouldn’t dwindle for decades more. 1970s New York is the best place and time to hide an underground society of killers.
The show will follow the mysterious purveyor of the New York Continental, Winston Scott. At The Continental professional assassins can let their guards down and have a drink together, knowing every killer is off duty. In the film franchise, Winston is played by Ian McShane; The Continental finds him when he was four decades younger and played by Colin Woodell.
The official plot synopsis of The Continental: “The three-part event will explore the origin behind the iconic hotel-for-assassins centerpiece of the John Wick universe through the eyes and actions of a young Winston Scott, as he’s dragged into the Hell-scape of 1970’s New York City to face a past he thought he’d left behind. Winston charts a deadly course through the hotel’s mysterious underworld in a harrowing attempt to seize the hotel where he will eventually take his future throne.
The Continental: From the World of John Wick will exclusively premiere on Peacock and will arrive exactly at 8:00 AM ET on Friday, September 22, 2023. The series is available on Prime Video for those outside of the US.
