The Witcher universe has seen quite a bit of expansion in the recent past. Since 2019, we have seen Netflix executing all their Witcher plans including the main web series, the anime “Nightmare of the Wolf”, and the spinoff “The Witcher: Blood Origin”. That aside, just a few days ago, CDPR also announced a new Witcher game with Witcher 3 next gen update also coming up soon. So, the live action and gaming world of the Witcher has received many exciting updates in the past, but what about the animation biz? We’ve got an exciting update about the new animated film Netflix has in store for us.
Will There Be A Second Witcher Anime?
The answer is yes. The second animated film in the Witcher universe was announced to be in works by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich during Netflix’s Tudum event. The good news is that now we have the possible title for this upcoming Witcher anime movie. According to The Cosmic Circus, the new anime movie will reportedly be titled The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep.
Mythologically speaking, Sirens are creatures from Greek mythology who lure men close to them using their own bodies as decoys and then devour them. Sirens, as some of you might remember were featured heavily in Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt in the Skellige map. If you need reminding, these were the creatures which spawned near sea and made your boat rides rather messy. So, going by the name this film might take us to Skellige or the nearby coasts of the continent.
Is It A Sequel to Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf?
In all honesty, we do not know the answer to that. It is quite possible that it is indeed a sequel to Nightmare of the Wolf as its end opened gates to many possibilities. One reason why we think it may be a sequel is that a few days ago we received reports which rumored a prequel about Lambert, Coen, and Eskel. As you may remember, at the end of Nightmare of the Wolf, all these Witchers along with Geralt survived and escaped with the help of Vesemir. So, it is very much possible that Sirens of the Deep showcases these young Witchers’ training and adventures.
While nothing is official yet, we are pretty sure this film will turn out to be incredible as well. Honestly, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf is so far the best Witcher production from Netflix as it held nothing back. It showcased the potential of Witchers aptly, it didn’t hold back on violence, and horror elements, and it presented a well crafted and fresh narrative. Having read the books and played the games, it felt really fresh and showcased a unique story in the world we know and admire.
