Ed Gein is one of the most infamous criminals in the history of America. His crimes were so gruesome that his nicknames were “Plainfield Ghoul” and “Butcher of Plainfield.” A new documentary based on the chronicles of his crimes, Psycho: The Last Tapes of Ed Gein features rare recordings of him. The recordings augment the warped nature of his heinous acts. MGM+ released the first trailer for this documentary series. The four-part Psycho: The Lost Tapes of Ed Gein will premiere on September 17th.

Psycho: The Lost Tapes of Ed Gein – New Documentary

Ed Gein admitted to digging up corpses to wear their skin, to turn their remains into furniture, and that he had murdered women. He is still one of the most fascinating figures in the history of horror, killers, and psychopaths. The fictionalized films and media representation are pale replication of what Gein was capable of.

According to a press release, “MGM+ original docuseries, Psycho: The Lost Tapes of Ed Gein, directed and executive produced by James Buddy Day, follows the horrifying grave robber and serial killer Ed Gein, otherwise known as ‘The Plainfield Ghoul’, and ‘The Mad Butcher,’ whose crimes inspired such iconic films like Psycho, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and The Silence of the Lambs.”

It continues, “For years, filmmakers, journalists, and scholars have tried to unravel the mind of this notorious killer, and with new reveals and never-before-heard recordings, viewers will be transported to late 1950s Middle America and submerged in Gein’s upbringing and twisted relationship with his mother, his early grave robbing, the murders leading up to his arrest, and the police’s discovery of his terrifying house of horrors-all accompanied by the brand new revelations revealed in the recordings.”
