Denzel Washington is arguably Hollywood’s biggest super star till date. He has portrayed some of the industry’s most iconic roles. One of them being Robert McCall, a former U.S. Marine who chooses vigilance justice in The Equalizer movies. The Antoine Fuqua directorial released in 2014, was a huge success that spawned another sequel in 2018. Now, to wrap up the trilogy Fuqua has returned with another film having Washington in the forefront in this action extravaganza. I’ve been watching The Equalizer 3 trailer in theatres everytime I’ve been to the movies recently. However, other then that I’ve not seen any promotion. In fact, I was waiting for the film’s first reactions to drop for a while but nothing surfaced. However, finally today – two days before the film’s release the media embargo has been lifted and we have the critics reviews.
The Equalizer 3 Reviews Round-Up: A Nice Ending To The Trilogy?
Bob Strauss (San Francisco Chronicle) – “Despite its reductive tendencies, “The Equalizer 3” is still superior to your standard Liam Neeson/“Death Wish” action flick.” Original Score: 2.5/4
Liz Shannon Miller (Consequence) – “If you’re intrigued by the idea of watching Denzel Washington straight-up murder a crap-ton of bad guys this weekend, but have never Equalized before now, don’t worry about being lost — The Equalizer 3 is exceptionally accessible for newcomers.” Original Score: B
Kate Erbland (indieWire) – “If this is the end of “The Equalizer,” it’s a good one…” Original Score: B-
Frank Scheck (Hollywood Reporter) – “There’s little to no suspense, because there’s never any doubt that McCall, who seems like a murderous automaton rather than merely a veteran secret agent, will triumph over his adversaries.”
Amon Warmann (Empire Magazine) – “A solid conclusion to an unlikely trilogy and a fitting end to Robert McCall’s character arc — with Washington still entertaining as a deliverer of slick justice.” Original Score: 3/5
Charles Bramesco (Guardian) – “As McCall spends a few scenes hobbling about with a cane following an injury sustained in the field, the anxiety of getting old nips at this movie’s heels, but its pipe dream of overpowered obsolescence responds with AK-47 fire.” Original Score: 2/5
Valerie Complex (Deadline Hollywood Daily) – “The film fits into what is best described as ‘Dad movies’ – films you’d happily take your father to with the confidence that Washington’s presence will win him over.”
Nick Schager (The Daily Beast) – “As self-contained as any episode of the television show upon which it’s based. It’s also as efficient and straightforward as that predecessor, if not quite as disposable, thanks to its peerless star.”
The Equalizer 3 is slated to release in theatres near you on September 1st 2023.
