Avatar 2 New Stills, Runtime, Languages and Formats

It has been 13 years since James Cameron, in his best-ever film, Avatar, completely swept us away by introducing us to the incredible planet of Pandora. Fans have been waiting for Avatar 2: The Way Of Water for a very long time. As Jake and Neytiri’s children take centre stage in the latest stills made public by Empire Magazine, it is clear that a lot of time has passed on Pandora as well. Another image offers a closer view of the underwater whale-like creature from Pandora.

In the new image (from left to right), we see Sigourney Weaver as adopted child Kiri who appears to be siding with Neteyam (Jamie Flatters), who it looks like is being scolded by Jake. In the background, we can also make out Lo’ak (Britain Dalton) and their youngest Tuktirey (Trinity Bliss) behind Jake. The image is in tandem with the tone set in the previously launched trailer when Jake says, “Wherever we go, this family is our fortress.” Check out the image below.

New Stills Give A More Detailed Look At Life In Pandora

Avatar 2 The Way of Water, Cameron Comments on the Runtime!

In addition to new cast members, Avatar: The Way of Water will have a variety of new species, many of which are aquatic. The native Na’vi coexist peacefully with many of the planet’s animals in the first movie, and the sequel will be no different, but with some new species, such as skimwings, which are used as mounts by the Metkayina tribe.

The second still from the upcoming film gives a most-detailed look at the new creature, a tulkun, which resembles a whale on Earth but with a few variances. In contrast to its real-world counterpart, the tulkun has a more rounded shape and two orange-tinted eyes, one large and one little.

According to producer Jon Landau, the creatures are “300 feet long; a sentient species and as intelligent in their own way as the Na’vi are in theirs.” Jake swimming calmly next to a tulkun in the first trailer for the movie showcased their happy interaction in the new location, and it appears that this is the scene from which the image is taken. Check out the still below.

Cameron Wants To Show Avatar 2 In The Best Possible Way

Cameron, Landau and their Lightstorm Entertainment, along with 20th Century and Disney, is expected to offer Avatar 2 in a wide variety of formats to support the range of theatre installations, including the use of 3D, 4K and a high frame rate of 48 frames per second.

With a runtime of around three hours, Avatar 2 will have more versions than any other film “in the history of movies” when it opens in theatres. “We are talking about high resolution, high frame rates, 3D, Imax, PLF, different sound systems and in 160 different languages,” noted John Fithian, president and CEO of the National Association of Theatre Owners.

Avatar: The Way Of Water releases worldwide on 16 December.
