What If? is based on a comic book series of the same name where specific points in Marvel History are changed and then we explore what kind of effects will that one change cause. What If? revolves around many universes and is an absolute delight as it is a multiversal adventure. While the first season gave us glimpses at what would’ve happened if T’Challa was abducted by Yondu instead of Peter Quill or What if Christine had died? and many more. The series explored many points in the MCU and only changed one thing. However, we saw how much a single decision of someone in one’s life could completely change the trajectory of that person’s life. The climax of the series saw all the previous episodes actually being interconnected together.
Before that it felt like an anthology of random what ifs throughout universes. The team-up at the end of Season 1 was like an Avengers climax. The show was always narrated by the Watcher voiced by Jeffery Wright. Since, the conclusion of Season 1, fans are excited to see what the next season of What If? may look like, as there’ll be more absurd scenarios that will give us the ultimate joy. However, it has to be seen whether they’ll follow Season 1’s pattern where all the episodes interconnect with each other at the end. Now, that San Diego Comic Con is back, Marvel is showcasing and revealing a lot of stuff at once. Along with official trailers, they just showed fans a clip from What If? Season 2.
What If Season 2: Captain America Defeats Thanos in Infinity War?
In the previewed footage, one shot definitely drew some attention as it was a shot of Captain America fighting Thanos where he knocks the time stone out of the Infinity Gauntlet. The Avengers’ leader has seemingly defeated the Mad Titan or at least delayed his victory. The shot offered an alternate look at the events of Avengers: Infinity War. The footage teases us to the additional stories about Odin vs Mandarin, Captain Carter fighting Winter Soldier, and more.
The ones in attendance even got to see an early version of What If? Season 2 focusing on Captain Carter. Along with this many announcements regarding the future of What If? were done. It was revealed that What If? Season 2 will drop on Disney+ in 2023, although no official window of release has been provided yet. Marvel also confirmed that What If? has already been renewed for a Season 3, that means more Mulitversal stories. Yay!
There were no announcements made for voice actors but I’m sure all the MCU veterans would return to voice their characters for the 2nd Season. Cap defeating Thanos says a lot in the grand scheme of the MCU. It challenges Doctor Strange’s 14 million and 65 futures as if it were that easy why did Doctor Strange took such a long route. This was even highlighted in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness when the Earth 838 Illuminati killed the Mad Titan pretty easily. This puts a dent on the stories we’d loved so far, doesn’t it?
Marvel’s next film- Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is slated to release on 11th November 2022.
