The release date for the upcoming open-world game Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has been delayed to either 2023 or 2024, according to video game developer Ubisoft. The postponement maintains a history of Avatar properties being pushed back. It seems Ubisoft intended for Frontiers of Pandora to be launched this year in time for Avatar: The Way of Water’s December release. The title will now take far longer than expected to reach stores.

Ubisoft Pushed Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Launch To Make It ‘Perfect’

The company made the announcement as part of its latest financial earnings on Thursday. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stated during the earnings call, “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will now release in 2023-24. We are committed to delivering a cutting-edge immersive experience that takes full advantage of next-gen technology, as this amazing global entertainment brand represents a major multi-year opportunity for Ubisoft.”

“While this additional development time is a reflection of the current ongoing constraints on productions across the industry, we are hard at work to design the most efficient working conditions to ensure both flexibility for our teams as well as strong productivity while delivering the best experiences to players,” he continued.

In 2017, the company first disclosed that a new Avatar video game was in development. Besides debuting the first trailer in 2021, Ubisoft has maintained the quiet around this eagerly awaited project. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC whenever it is launched.

Ubisoft also mentioned in its earnings report that it will reveal the “future of the Assassin’s Creed brand” in September and that it had delayed the release of “a smaller unannounced premium game” from 2022 or 2023 to 2023 or 2024. The company is still scheduled to release Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope on October 20 and the pirate simulator Skull and Bones on November 8 this year.
