Marvel Studios‘ new animated series Marvel Zombies will be the first Disney+ original series produced specifically for mature audiences. With Marvel Zombies receiving a TV-MA rating, studio executives promised plenty of gore during the Marvel Studios Animation panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022. All of Marvel’s live-action Disney+ originals to date, along with the animated series What If…?, have been rated TV-14.
Marvel Zombies Set To Release In 2024
The idea was so popular that it was bound to be adapted soon. The first time it occurred in the MCU was in the fifth episode of the 2021 animated series What If…?, which was titled “What If…Zombies?!”. It was reported shortly after in November 2021 that Marvel Animation would create Marvel Zombies as a stand-alone animated series. The animated series was teased at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, along with a new band of Marvel heroes and zombie characters on which the plot will centre.
Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Ava Starr/Ghost, Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Emil Blonsky/Abomination, Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Steve Rogers/Captain America, and Ikaris are some of the heroes and villains who have been turned into undead creatures. Joining them will be the survivors like Yelena Belova/Black Widow, Kate Bishop/Hawkeye, Jimmy Woo, Shang-Chi, Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, Li Ching-Lin/Death Dealer, Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian and Katy.
Marvel Comics’ original Marvel Zombies limited series, written by Robert Kirkman, drawn by Sean Phillips, coloured by June Chung, and lettered by Randy Gentile, ran for five issues from December 2005 to April 2006. Marvel has since made several spinoffs and sequels to Marvel Zombies.
Disney+ has been preparing to increase its rating content for a while now. Disney implemented family-watching settings after the addition of the Defenders Saga series from Netflix to Disney+. Deadpool, Deadpool 2, and Logan, three R-rated X-Men movies, have all recently been introduced to Disney+.
Marvel Studios announced at their Marvel Animation panel that Marvel Zombies won’t debut on Disney+ until 2024. While it is a long wait, fans can anticipate plenty of zombie brutality and gore since the series has received a mature rating.
