Holt McCallany will join Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt for his latest outing in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two. As the title of the eighth Mission: Impossible movie suggests, it is the second instalment of a two-part series finale. No plot specifics have been released for either Mission: Impossible 7 or 8, but viewers can expect IMF agent Ethan Hunt and his team to go on another adventure to stop a global disaster that takes them all over the world.
The Mindhunter Star Joins The Mission Impossible Franchise
According to Deadline, McCallany will play Secretary of Defense Bernstein in Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part Two. Other than that, not much else was made public regarding McCallany’s character. Hayley Atwell, Shea Whigham, and Pom Klementieff are all part of the cast, making their Mission: Impossible debuts in Dead Reckoning Part One. In addition to his famous performance as FBI Special Agent Bill Tench in Mindhunter, McCallany is well-known for his roles in the Best Picture-nominated horror movie Nightmare Alley and the AMC legal drama 61st Street.
After directing Part One, Fallout, and Rogue Nation for the franchise, Christopher McQuarrie will return to helm Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two. The Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning movies have been in development for a very long time. When the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, the first chapter was one of the first Hollywood movies to be shut down. Even after filming was resumed, the project was put on hold for a week after crew members tested positive for the virus.
Fans of McCallany’s work, especially those who liked him in Mindhunter, are sure to be happy to hear of his casting. The third season of the Netflix series, which chronicles the formation of the FBI’s Behavioural Science Unit and criminal profiling, was previously expected to launch its third season, but David Fincher’s desire to work on new projects caused those plans to be put on wait indefinitely. Fans of Mindhunter may, therefore, take comfort in knowing that McCallany will join another anticipated project shortly.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two is expected to hit theatres on June 28, 2024.
