Echo is an upcoming Marvel show that will start streaming on Disney from next year. The show will focus on Echo aka Maya Lopez who is the adoptive daughter of the Marvel villain Kingpin. The character made her MCU debut in the Disney+ show Hawkeye that came out last year. The show focused on Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton being a mentor to Kate Bishop and allowing her to take the reigns from her. Bishop will also be a part of or possibly lead the Young Avengers. As Echo appeared in the show who has a direct connection to Kingpin Marvel was not missing out on the opportunity to officially introduce Kingpin in the MCU. You can say that Kingpin was the main villain of the show. However, his adoptive daughter is on the side of his opposition, similar to the comics where she was on the side of Daredevil. The success of the show paved the way for Maya Lopez played by Alqua Cox to get a spin off series for herself.
At this year’s San Diego Comic Con, Marvel revealed their release schedule for the next three years. Amongst the most closest releases is the Echo series. Echo is a very interesting character so her getting her own show was certainly good news even if many of us didn’t see it coming. The official synopsis of the show show given by Disney is, “The origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.” While we were wondering in what manner will Kingpin be part of the series, today we have leaked images of him that give us an idea.
Echo: Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin Look Changed?
Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin seemingly died at the end of Hawkeye. So his inclusion in the series does raise certain questions. Will the series’ storyline would be focused on a Kingpin storyline or will he be appearing in the form of flashbacks is something to be seen. Having said that, Kingpin is rumored to be quite busy as he’ll be appearing in a number of Disney shows including the new Daredevil show- Daredevil: Born Again. So him being dead doesn’t really make sense as him appearing only in flashbacks is a disservice to the character and honestly just lame.
We don’t have any updates or rumors that clear this confusion but as the production of the series continues, we’ll be getting a lot more information. In the leaked image Vincent D’Onofrio is seen walking between takes in a white suit vest with a black dress shirt. Along with that some photos have also seen him in his classic Kingpin attire or costume. The costume change might suggest a different timeline story, maybe the past or maybe it is the present and this is a simple costume tweak like in Hawkeye.
“It’s just so crazy that I’m getting my own show after Hawkeye. That was like my first acting role, ever,” Alqua Cox previously mentioned about her MCU role. “I don’t know why they’re giving me this opportunity, but I’m just grateful. I’m excited for the support and being able to advocate for the Deaf community. We want to have that equality and get more people involved. I’m just so grateful for all of the opportunities I’ve been given.” She continued, “It’s crazy how much my life has already changed because I was a college dropout. I worked at a factory. I’m so excited to show people who I am and what I can do, what anybody can do.”
Marvel’s Echo will start streaming on Disney+ in 2023.
