Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a new Sony movie that is in the Spider-Man mythos but not part of the live-action Sony Spider-Man Universe. It is the sequel to Sony’s Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse. That film came out in 2018 and was a huge success. The film was a reminder that Sony still remembered how to create a great Spider-Man movie. Because after Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, it felt like they had forgotten something that they had once. The first film was made on a budget of $90 Million and it made $375.5 Million on the Box Office. It currently holds the rating of 8.4/10 on IMDb and a 97% Fresh rating on rotten Tomatoes. The film even grabbed the Best Animated Film at the Academy Awards.

After enjoying such a dream run with the film, Sony was happy to greenlit the sequel. Sony had released a new trailer for the sequel sometime last year, I think it was attached to the No Way Home film. The new trailer shows Miles Morales taking on another fun action adventure with Gwen Stacy that will involve Earth 2099. The look of the film is slightly amended but the aesthetic is still the same. TAs we’d already gotten the teaser from Sony, today Executive Producer Christopher Miller revealed a new poster for the film.

What does Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’s New Poster Reveal?

The first film was directed by three directors, Bob Persichietti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman. Now you might think this may give rise to a too many chefs on one dish syndrome but the first film thrived through it rather according to Miller, it benefitted immensely. Miller took to Twitter to reveal the new poster for the upcoming Spider-Verse film. It shows Miles Morales’ Spider-Man fighting Earth 2099’s Spider-Man. I got to say the new Spider-Man i.e. Earth 2099’s Spider-Man looks insane.

Miller captioned the post that revealed the poster as New Across the Spider-Verse poster for the crew. This means this poster is official but most likely won’t be used in marketing the film. This looks more like a gift for the crew of the film. However, it is nice to see posters of upcoming films. While the poster makes sure as to not reveal too much, it does gives us an idea of what to expect from this film. I just hope it is better than the previous film and doesn’t end up in the pile of worthless sequels.

Here’s the new Across the Spider-Man Poster:

Across the Spider-Verse is helmed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, with a screenplay written by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Dave Callaham.

Christopher Miller talked about how having three directors helped the first film, “This is a situation where the movie was so ambitious, it was trying to do so many groundbreaking things in its visual style, in its storytelling style, in its cinematic style.” Miller continued to ComicBook.com, “Everything about it … The sound mix was probably going to be groundbreaking, so it required a lot of work. Every version of these movies is a collaboration of hundreds of filmmakers working together, and in the best versions people are contributing their creative ideas, and the people, the directors, and the producers are the ones that get to decide which of the things fit the road that you’re going down.”

The sequel stars Oscar Isaac, Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson and Issa Rae in prominent roles.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will releasing in theatres on 2nd June 2023.
