The Crown Season 5 Release Date, Cast, All We Know So Far

The Crown is prepared to start a new chapter in the saga of the Windsor family. A whole different cast of performers will play members of the royal family during the 1990s in the upcoming season of the Netflix original series, which switches up ensembles every two seasons. Read to find out all the details that we currently know about Season 5.

When Will The Crown Season 5 Come Out And What To Expect

Fans are already looking forward to the next instalment of the Netflix series as it won’t be long till it premieres in November 2022. Imelda Staunton, who will play Queen Elizabeth II in the upcoming season, verified the information during the TUDUM fan gathering in September 2021 (see above). This implies The Crown will return right before Thanksgiving with tons of family turmoil and political conflicts.

Since the previous season’s events were focused on the 1980s, the upcoming season will likely concentrate on the significant royal scandals of the 1990s. 1992, in Your Royal Highness’s words, was “annus horribilis” (Latin expression for “horrible year”). Diana and Charles split up around that time, and Windsor Castle suffered a terrible fire that destroyed 115 rooms. The series is also anticipated to include Diana’s sensational interview for BBC in 1995, which revealed the specifics of her marriage’s collapse and her reality in the public eye.

The Newest Season Will See Plenty Of New Faces In Familiar Roles

Jonathan Pryce, who starred in Pirates of the Caribbean, will play the new Prince Philip alongside Imelda Staunton in the role of the Queen in The Crown Season 5. Elizabeth Debicki will depict Diana in the 1990s alongside Dominic West as Prince Charles. On August 17, 2021, Netflix unveiled the first image of the royal pair, who immediately drew notice from viewers because of their similarities to the real-life couple at the time. Interestingly, West’s son, Senan West, will play Prince William. Although Debicki will play the most recent portrayal of Princess Diana, Emma Corrin might reprise her role in Season 5 through flashbacks.

As for the other family members, Lesley Manville will don the tiara in the role of Princess Margaret. Sam Wolf will play Prince Edward, James Murray will play Prince Andrew, and Claudia Harrison will play Princess Anne. Following their divorce, Prince Charles and Diana’s romantic interests Camila Parker Bowles and Dr. Hasnat Khan, will be portrayed by Olivia Williams and Humayun Saeed. Season 5 will feature two prime ministers in its storyline, which is a departure from the prior seasons. Prime Minister John Major, who served in government from 1990 to 1997, will be portrayed in the show by Trainspotting actor Jonny Lee Miller. Bertie Carvel will play Tony Blair, Major’s replacement as prime minister.

The Crown is already renewed for Season 6. Despite Peter Morgan’s initial plan to conclude the royal adaptation to the screen with Season 5, he changed his mind and decided to continue the plot for an additional season. The last episode of the series will probably ignore more recent events and concentrate on the 2000s. It is scheduled to debut on the streaming service in 2023.
