Warner Bros. are losing a lot of money they’d invested in their “asset” DC. The studio has had three back to back flops, however, if there is anyone who has lost from DC then it is not Warner Bros., it is Henry Cavill. After starring as Superman in Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League (2017 & 2021), the actor was sidelined for a while before the official announcement in 2022 where he was brought back as Superman, after his cameo in Black Adam. In order to join the DCEU once again, the actor quit his role in Netflix’ The Witcher series. Days after the official announcement, James Gunn took over DC and deemed Cavill unfit for his iteration of Superman. The man lost two huge projects in matter of days. His loyal fans were really upset and hoped, he’d get a major part once again. Something like James Bond. Well, he didn’t get that but he has an entire slate of movies and TV shows which will make fans happy.
Argylle (February 2nd, 2024)
Henry Cavill might not be James Bond, yet, but he has certainly got a spy adventure under his belt. Argylle is an upcoming Apple TV+ film which is based on Elly Conway’s yet-to-be-released novel of the same name. The basic premise of the film is, “Henry Cavill’s character is a former superspy who lost his memory and was convinced by his former employers that he was just a book author…until his memories started coming back” Matthew Vaughn admits he cast Cavill because the actor was “born to play Bond.” Well, he is not wrong.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024)
What is better than one spy film? Two spy films. The second film of Cavill to be released in 2024 is Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which is based on Damien Lewis’s book about Winston Churchill and Ian Fleming’s secret combat organization during WWII that employed dirty methods to kill the Nazis. This organization has became a prototype of the modern “black ops.” Cavill was the first actor to get an offer from Guy Ritchie to star in the film.
The Rosie Project (TBD)
With this one, Cavill is breaking into new territory – romantic drama. The film is based on Graeme Simsion’s bestseller novel, The Rosie Project that tells the story of an unlucky genetics professor who is striving to find his perfect life partner via a questionnaire, but, he ends up falling in love with a woman who fits next to no criteria on his thought-through list. The film is still in pre-production and with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes going on, it might not go on floors anytime soon. As things stand, Henry Cavill is the only confirmed actor attached to the project.
Warhammer 40k (TBD)
Perhaps the most exciting project for fans and Cavill both. Warhammer 40k is a popular tabletop game that has a huge IP. Cavill has been a fan of the game since his childhood. Amazon has purchased the screen rights for Warhammer 40k and has instantly announced that Cavill will join this project both as an actor and producer. This is Cavill’s dream come true. After his nightmarish experience on Netflix’ The Witcher, Cavill has made sure not to ruin another iconic game. Cavill has finally gained creative control on this series and will make sure to give it an amazing adaptation for the screen. We don’t know which character he’ll play yet, but fans guess it will be the legendary God-Emperor.
Highlander (TBD)
Another amazing project under Cavill’s belt is Lionsgate’s Highlander remake which is directed by Chad Stahelksi, director of the John Wick franchise. This is awesome news. Cavill shared his participation in the project right away. The British actor would play the main character in the epic sci-fi fantasy tale about immortal human beings hunting each other down to acquire more powers for themselves. A collaboration between Stahelski and Cavill could be the cinematic experience you didn’t know you needed. There are some rumors floating that Cavill has been replaced in the cast but none of them are confirmed.
