While Ghost of Tsushima had a few narrative choices—including the gut-wrenching and heartbreaking ending—it lacked frequent, impactful decisions that could truly shape the world. Ghost of Yotei should feature deeper choice-based storytelling, where the player’s actions have lasting consequences on the world, characters, and even gameplay mechanics. It also makes a lot of sense for a samurai to face moral dilemmas at every other new turn of the journey and hence, the more this happens, the more immersive the story will become.

Not all side quests need to focus on combat or rescuing hostages. Taking inspiration from The Witcher 3, Ghost of Yotei could introduce a mix of simple and complex quests, some of which explore everyday life in feudal Japan. Imagine uncovering forgotten traditions, solving local disputes, or even helping a village rediscover lost customs. The more variety, the more immersive the experience.
3. Mini-Games Inspired by Japanese Culture
A well-designed mini-game can add depth and replayability. Just like The Witcher 3 had Gwent, Ghost of Yotei could introduce traditional Japanese games such as:
- Hanafuda – A beautiful and strategic card game featuring seasonal flowers.
- Shogi – Japan’s version of chess, offering a cerebral challenge.
- Kendama – A skill-based toy involving a ball and cup mechanism, which could be used in fun village competitions.

These mini-games would add cultural depth and serve as a fun diversion from the main story, making the world of the Ghost even more immersive.
4. More Mystical Abilities and Magic
Japanese folklore is rich with supernatural elements, and Ghost of Tsushima barely scratched the surface. While it introduced some mystical abilities in the Legends mode, Ghost of Yotei could fully embrace the mythological side of Japan by incorporating more shamanistic powers, Chi-based combat, or even spirit-driven abilities. The protagonist could wield supernatural skills inspired by Japanese mythology, making them an even more formidable warrior.
5. Deeper Exploration of Japanese Mythology
While Ghost of Tsushima featured plenty of Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples, it never fully integrated mythology into the main story. The Iki Island DLC, however, hinted at the potential for exploring more mythical elements. Ghost of Yotei could go even further—introducing legendary creatures like the Tengu or Oni, delving into folklore-driven missions, and perhaps even allowing the player to interact with spirits and deities. Tapping into Japan’s rich mythology could elevate Yotei to the heights of franchises like God of War.

In addition to these improvements, Ghost of Yotei could also refine combat mechanics, introduce more dynamic weather and seasonal changes, and enhance stealth mechanics to make gameplay even more immersive.
As for the release date, the game is set to launch in 2025. While an official window hasn’t been confirmed, the most likely scenarios are a Fall 2025 release, aligning with Sucker Punch’s previous launch trends, or a Summer 2025 launch if development is ahead of schedule.
