It began with games being based on cinema but today gaming industry has become so huge that cinema is based on it. This year itself we saw the release of the movie Uncharted as well as Halo TV series that just released on Paramount+. Now it seems to be God of War’s turn, even though the game series itself is quite a visual delight. It might be really hard to produce something as good as God of War and might end up disappointing a lot of fans. But standing up to such challenges is what makes these studios stand out.
Dave Bautista’s Comments on the Role of Kratos
Ever since it was announced, fans have been pitching in their ideas about the most suitable cast members for the various roles in the series. One of major debated fancast is for the role of Kratos with Dave Bautista and Jason Mamoa being the most suitable according to the fans. It is entirely possible that Amazon PrimeVideo brings a fresh or lesser known face for the role. After all it’s not just about the appearance and a lot of other things are involved in the process of cast selection. But Bautista has proven himself to be a wonderful actor in projects like Guardians of the Galaxy, Dune, and Army of the Dead. So, his casting would actually makes sense as be looks the part and can act good as well.
When Comicbook.com was talking about the same, Dave Bautista shared his personal views in the comments. “According to popular opinion, there’s everyone else. Hey! I love proving people wrong. #justsayin.” From this, it sounds like he sure is open to the idea and wants to prove people that he’s capable of the role of Kratos.
We have seen many instances of actors playing their dream roles in the recent times including Henry Cavil as Geralt of Rivia (Witcher), and Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka (Star Wars). Although, this is not Bautista’s dream role, it is possible he is brought in to play the role just as we saw in the case of John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic. In this modern world, both actor and fans usually get what they want. Add to that how amazingly suitable Bautista is for the role of Kratos. For me though, it would be awesome to see Nick Offerman as old Kratos from God of War (2018).
Amazon’s God of War
God of War project was officially green lit a few days ago and it comes alongside planned adaptations for other Sony games as well. These include, Horizon Zero Dawn, which will land on Netflix, and the racing game Gran Turismo, which has not been assigned a platform yet.
From what we have heard, series adaptation comes from The Expanse creators Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby and The Wheel of Time executive producer Rafe Judkins. Also, Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions will be involved as they collaborate on all Movies/TV series based on PlayStation games. So, reps for Sony and Amazon Studios will co-produce the series but have no further comments on release, plot, etc. as of yet.
The hugely popular ancient mythology-themed game won millions of hearts and buttload of Game of the Year Awards. God of War series has always been a force to be reckoned with but GOW 2018 took it to new heights. It is not too much to say that it WRECKED the world of gaming with it’s immersive storyline, interesting characters, and out of the world graphics. So, its going to be a little hard to live up to all this but as fans we can only hope.
