Alien 5 Confirmed, Ridley Scott Will Produce

Alien is one such franchise which has been blessed with not one, but many visionary directors. This includes Ridley Scott, James Cameron, David Fincher, and Jean-Pierre Jeunet. The four main movies aside, it has a crossover movie series Alien vs Predator and prequel movie series. So Alien franchise has been one of the biggest and most expansive non superhero franchise ever.

Alien 5 Is Happening

It all began in 1979 with Scott’s first film and the last we saw of the franchise was Alien: Convent (2017) which was the second prequel film. Last we saw of the main series was Alien: Resurrection  (1997) and since then this is the biggest news yet. Alien 5 has now been officially confirmed and Ridley Scott is all set to produce the new movie. Fede Álvarez is also now on board to write and direct the sequel.

Álvarez is a French filmmaker known for his horror flicks like Don’t Breathe (2016) and Evil Dead (2013). So, the movie seems to be in the right hands but there is one question to be asked. Why? Alien is one franchise which sort of lost its magic after the 3rd film, yet the studio insist on reviving it. Its a good news for fans no doubt but is it really required? Ahh why not.

Alien 5 Release Date and Platform

The film will debut on Hulu and is said to be unconnected to the previous movie, according to Steve Asbell (20th Century Studios). Here’s what he had to say when asked about the film:

It was just a really good story with a bunch of characters you haven’t seen before. It’s not a film that has to be all things to all people with those gargantuan budgets. They get to be authentically what they are. And this is closer to its genre roots.

Also, an Alien TV series is in the works from showrunner Noah Hawley, which is set to debut on FX and will be set 70 years in future. Regarding Ridley Scott, he is currently working on his Napoleon biopic with Joaquin Phoenix. He has stated that next on his list would be the long-awaited Gladiator sequel which I am sure you are waiting for impatiently.

As for Alien 5, the film is still is pre-production stage and might not release before 2024, given the kind of VFX such films require.

  1. This is not the movie I want made. Need the sequel to Covenant with Fassbender! The cliffhanger was great and extremely disappointing if they just abandon that story just because the masses felt it wasn’t enough like the original Alien movie. So much storytelling potential there will now be lost in lieu of a lame jump scare horror focus. True fans lose out with this decision, which is all about money and not about quality sci-fi at all.

    1. Well, what can be said. Every franchise is trying to rejuvenate and make money off their previous “big name” properties. You can just skip it and wait for the one you wanna see.

      1. Wish I could just wait for a proper sequel to Covenant with Fassbender but we know this will never happen now. Scott had to settle for this option instead which is a travesty to cerebral film fans. The sad reality of today’s movie focus

    2. I tend to agree, but Covenant was never really supposed to happen anyway. The original Prometheus script was written as a direct prequel to Alien – the crashed engineer’s ship was the one found by the Nostromo.

      1. Not quite. It was originally supposed to be that ship. But they changed it during the production. It’s actually a different planet with a ship crashed in a extremely (suspiciously) similar way

    3. Of course it’s about money. Every franchise exists to make money, whether film or gaming. If you were an investor, you wouldn’t intentionally give money to a project you knew wasn’t going to return that investment, let alone a substantial profit, because you’re “doing it for the fans”.
Put up your own $20 million alongside a few others if, and see how happy you are when you don’t get even half back.
“For the fans”, for fucks sake lol. It’s a BUSINESS.

    4. I totally agree that Covenant needs resolution and I would hope Walter would somehow make a comeback to dispatch the evil David.
ThT said, in my heart of hearts I WAS hoping Scott would somehow OVERRIDE the hated 3 and 4 Alien movies and pick up whete Cameron’s #2 film, Aliens, left off. The first two movies were HEROIC. I happen to LIKE heroic. Alien 3 and 4 totally SUCKED!!!!

  2. Covenant was a disappointing film compared to the brilliant Prometheus, but I’d like to see the prequel story at least finished off rather than this new Alien sequel. It sounds like they’re trying to make it on the cheap, but at least it’s not Blomkamp’s idiotic idea that retcons Alien 3 and Resurrection just so he could have Hicks in it again.

  3. I’m excited that we are going to get another installment, but sadly, I hate that they’re not continuing with the prequel franchise. It’s so much story to tell after the cliffhanger of Covenant. It would’ve been nice to finally see the Engineers’ homeworld.

  4. These new “made for tv” movies on the streaming platforms are terrible….anybody see the latest installment of the Texas chainsaw massacre?
If they made the other covenant movie…I’d be happier….the 4th alien movie wasnt terribly good either, and if they’re doing the next one on a small budget for tv….it’ll end up looking and feeling like it….and simply trying to remind fans of the first two movies…
Like the “predators ” movie that had Oleg taktarov in it…more nostalgia than story and visuals….

I’d much rather have new stories told exceptionally well …creating new masterpieces of film …than a rehashing of older titles….or endless reboots that only muddy storylines…think of the 2 suicide squad movies…the first fits the overall story arc for dc….the latest takes a dump on it…and makes any other one they make difficult to fit into any storyline.
…well,I guess as long as the alien vs predator line is over and done….like finito for good…that’s a start.

  5. Ridley, tell them to do one. True fans want a follow up covenant. All the best to a student of Hartlepool college of art. Also I would love a small part in it, no fee. All the best Murphy.

  6. Nooooo I would have like to see the next with fastener too I thought it was good liked where the story had gone I own all the movies and love to watch them in order if its just a scare horror and not related it might ruin it im concerned…

  7. To be honest I wanna know how the alien ship crash on LV 426 in the first alien movie,I thought prometheus was going to show that but it was a whole another plot,I mean it was close but that movie was base on another planet LV 223,I be satisfied if they can make a movie about that ALIEN ship crashing on LV 426

  8. If you want to see the Prometheus arc done right, just watch Raised by Wolves. It’s clearly that. As for Alien, the vast majority of people would have liked to see Blomkamp’s direct Alien sequel happen. All these TV projects will be garbage.

  9. The franchise died after the second movie. The third movie is rubbish. If any director can bring it back, Fede can. But Scott could kill it with another bad script.
