Argylle Embargo!

Argylle is the new Matthew Vaughn directorial but it has no ties to the Kingsman universe, however, it is still a spy thriller. The film is based on the 2024 book by Elly Conway of the same name. Honestly, of all the releases lined up in 2024, Argylle looks the most unconventional and weird film. The film focuses on Elly Conway (played by Bryce Howard Dallas), an introverted spy novelist who seldom leaves her home, is drawn into the real world of espionage when the plots of her books get a little too close to the activities of a sinister underground syndicate.

While this is the main premise, all of it is somehow also connected to this mysterious cat that appears throughout the marketing campaign of the film. Being a Matthew Vaughn spy movie and Henry Cavill directorial, the film has generated some kind of hype. Argylle is having its premieres throughout the world, however, no reviews of the film have surfaced. So, when will get Argylle’s reviews? Let’s find out.

Argylle Reviews Won’t Be Coming Soon!

Kingsman maker Matthew Vaughn appears to be in his comfort zone with Argylle. The spy action comedy comes with a reported $200 million budget and hopes to spawn a trilogy. However, all of this depends on how does Argylle perform. Since, the film has premiered in various cities throughout the world, critics worldwide have witnessed it and are itching to talk about it but can’t because of the review embargo set by Universal and Apple TV+.

This is a common practise that Hollywood studios follow to make their films’ critical reception public at the right time. If like me, you’re also waiting for Argylle’s reviews, then you have to wait till 31st January for the review embargo to lift up. This date comes courtesy of film reviewer and box office analyst Luiz Fernando.

After attending Argylle’s premiere he posted on X ( previously Twitter) promising to share his thoughts on January 31st, thus confirming the embargo lift up date. Check out the post below:

The embargo lifting up on 31st i.e., three days before the film’s theatrical release date is a good sign because this means the studio trusts the quality of their product and are not afraid of critics spreading a bad word of mouth. Last year, critically and commercially successful films like Barbie and Oppenheimer both lifted their embargos 2-3 days before their release.

While critical and box office bombs like Meg 2: The Trench and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom both lifted their review embargos on the day of the film’s release. These are positive signs and I hope Argylle lives up to the hype it has generated so far.

Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, John Cena, and Samuel L. Jackson fill out the eclectic cast of Argylle.

Argylle will release in theatres near you February 2nd, 2024.
