Avatar 2 New Image Reveals Stephen Lang Returns As Na’Vi Quaritch

According to a brand-new picture released, Stephen Lang ’s evil character will return in Avatar 2: The Way of Water as a Na’vi person. Back in 2009, Lang played Miles Quaritch in the first Avatar movie. Being in charge of security on Pandora made Quaritch the main enemy in Avatar because he planned the assaults on the Na’vi. In the first film, Quaritch was slain in battle during the assault on the Tree of Souls.

However, it has long been known that Quaritch will return in Avatar 2 despite his death. For a while, filmmaker James Cameron withheld the specifics of how the dead antagonist would return in the follow-up films, only saying that actor Christopher Lang would return in some capacity. One of the Na’vi figures in The Way of Water teaser trailer looked much like Quaritch while sporting military combat gear. Due to this, many people assumed that the figure would show up in The Way of Water as a Na’vi reincarnation of the original villain, who was a human. Check out the image below.

Avatar 2: The Way of Water Unveils A New Version Of Quaritch

In the picture, Lang can be seen as Quaritch, but with a huge blue avatar body. The Resources Development Administration (RDA), as it was named in the first movie, looks to be where he is standing, complete with high-tech computer screens and simulations all around.

“He’s bigger, he’s bluer, he’s pissed off. But there may possibly be an aspect of humility. When you take two Na’vi arrows in the chest, that’s gonna have some kind of effect on you.” Lang told Empire Magazine.

Lang’s announced return as a Na’vi version of Quaritch coincides with Sigourney Weaver’s latest character reveal in Avatar 2. In the first film, Dr. Grace Augustine, played by Weaver, also passed away. Weaver will take on the part of Kiri, a young Na’vi girl who is Jake and Neytiri’s adoptive daughter, rather than reprising her previous role. The question is no longer about which role Weaver or Lang would play, but rather how their characters came to be the way they are.

The first of four upcoming Avatar sequels, Avatar: The Way of Water, debuts later this year. Release dates for the fourth and fifth movies will depend on how well The Way of Water and its as-yet-untitled sequel perform. Viewers will see the return of Quaritch and the RDA when Avatar: The Way of Water opens in theatres on December 16.
