Twelve years since we’ve heard from Pandora and now we’re getting a sequel to the highest grossing movie of all time aka Avatar. Avatar 2: The Way of Water has been in the works for a long time as James Cameron, director of Avatar wanted to expand on the world created by him. After Disney’s acquisition of Fox, they not only green lit the sequel rather other 4 follow-up films as well that are suppose to release every 2 years. The studio has sure put in a lot of trust in Cameron and given his track record with box office numbers, they’ve taken a calculated risk. The trailer of the sequel looks absolutely pristine and that is literally the only word I find fit to describe it. Cameron is cooking something meaty for the audiences. Despite being such a visual effects heavy film it doesn’t feel leathery but rather real and sleek.
I have to admit I’m not the biggest fan of the first Avatar, I mean liked it and I still do but its not a film that I adore and cherish. The technical brilliance it is unparalleled but it didn’t tickle my heart strings. So, until I saw the trailer I was not excited for the sequel. Cameron’s recent comments also indicate that this would be far deeper film that the original. The runtime of the film (3 hours and 10 minutes) suggests the same. The sequel is said to be the biggest movie Hollywood has ever produced with its budget ranging from $350-400 Million. The film just had its premiere in London and the critics that experienced the spectacle have given out their thoughts on the film.
Avatar 2: The Way of Water Reviews: Cameron Has Hit it Out of the Park?
All the reviews and reactions that I’ve come across have overwhelming positive response to Cameron’s film. People have addressed that the film’s runtime can certainly be felt but it is not a concern or an issue. Most reviews call the film better than the original, as it is much a layered narrative that focuses on its character and their interpersonal relationships while giving us an absolute visual treat that has to be witnessed on the biggest screen possible.
