Wednesday Netflix Show Keeps On Breaking Records!

Wednesday is a new Netflix comedy supernatural show that focuses on a character from The Addams Family lore- Wednesday Addams. The Addams Family started out in 1964 as a sitcom that ran for two seasons. It was created by American cartoonist Charles Addams. After the success of the show the audiences were fond of the characters as they were quirky and weird. From the television spawned three Addams Family movies. The movies came out almost 30 years after the television series had ended. The first film came out in 1991, and it had a lukewarm response but it worked on the box office, the sequel too had a similar response but this time didn’t do as well on the box office. The final film is trilogy came out in 1998, and that was a total mess, let’s not talk about it.

Now 24 years later, Netflix decided to adapt a character from the Addams Family into a TV show and it looks like this might’ve been the smartest decision they’ve taken in a while. The show had opened to mixed response from the critics but as soon as the audiences watched they fell in love with the series and that reflects in the Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes (87%). The ratings for the show as well tells us the popularity it has gained amongst the audiences. Jenna Ortega’s portrayal as Wednesday has taken over the world. The series can’t stop breaking records, let’s see what else did it shatter this week.

Wednesday Breaks Its Own Record!

Wednesday’s debut figures were some of the best ever seen and Netflix too would’ve been shocked by them. After its release on 23rd November 2022, in its first week itself, the supernatural horror comedy had gathered 341.23 Million hours on Netflix shooting it at the top of the TV charts. This is a huge deal as this means the series has beaten Netflix’s juggernaut Stranger Things 4. Stranger Things 4 Vol. 1 was watched for 335 Million in its first week. This means Wednesday is the most watched English Language show on Netflix right now.

Only behind Squid Game if we take out the language barrier. However, Wednesday;s craze didn’t die out in its first week, today we have the numbers for the second week and they’re colossal. The week of November 28 – December 4, Wednesday gathered 411.29 million hours. This is the first time any English-language series has reached and passed 400 million hours viewed in a week. Combining the figures of Week and 2 we have a number of 752.52 million cumulative hours streamed.

In Netflix’s all-time chart Wednesday ranks third as of now just behind No. 2 Dahmer- Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and No.1 being of course Stranger Things 4. It is a real possibility that Wednesday will surpass Dahmer and take the No. 2 spot very quickly. Please note that this all-time chart is only limited to English Language TV shows hence doesn’t numbers of Squid Game.

All eight episodes of Wednesday are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
