The Promised Land Online Release Date!

The Promised Land originally titled Bastarden is a 2023 western-thriller directed by Nikolaj Arcel who is best known for his 2012 film A Royal Affair, which won two prizes at the Berlin International Film Festival and which was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards, as well as the 2017 American film The Dark Tower. The director has made over 15 movies until now. The Promised Land is his most recent venture and was just as critically lauded as his previous best works. The film debuted in US theatres on February 2nd, 2024. Bastarden – The Promised Land’s Digital Debut Is Around The Corner!

When To Stream reports that The Promised Land or Bastarden will be available for purchase or rent on digital and VOD platforms like Vudu, Apple iTunes and Amazon Prime Video from February 23rd, 2024. As mentioned above, the film premiered in US theatres on February 2nd, meaning Magnolia Pictures (the studio behind the film) is planning a 21 days exclusive theatrical run for the film in the US.

A separate listing from dvdreleasedates also confirms this online release date. In fact, the new listing also reveals the film’s physical media release date. The Promised Land will be available for purchase on physical media formats like DVD and Blu-ray from April 30th, 2024. This means that one of the best films of 2023 will soon be just a click away for you.

The Nikolaj Arcel directorial world-premiered at the 2023 Venice Film Festival before where it competed for the Golden Lion. It was also selected as the Danish entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards, and was one of the 15 finalist films in the December shortlist. The film originally released in Denmark on October 5th, 2023.

The Mads Mikkelsen starrer was a major hit amongst critics as the film has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 95% out of 86 reviews (audience score: 94%) and an IMDb score of 7.7/10. The official synopsis of the film reads:

In 18th-century Denmark, impoverished war hero Capt. Ludvig Kahlen sets out to tame a vast, uninhabitable land on which seemingly nothing can grow. This beautiful but forbidding area is under the rule of Frederik De Schinkel, a merciless nobleman who realizes the threat Kahlen represents to his power. As a new community starts to settle in, De Schinkel swears vengeance, leading to a violent and intense confrontation between the two men.

The Promised Land is penned down by director Arcel & Anders Thomas Jensen. The film stars Mads Mikkelsen, Amanda Collin and Simon Bennebjerg, with Kristine Kujath Thorp, Gustav Lindh, Jakob Lohmann, Morten Hee Andersen, Magnus Krepper and Felix Kramer in supporting roles. It is based on the book The Captain and Ann Barbara by Ida Jessen.

The Promised Land is currently playing in US theatres.
