Right after the success of Cruella (2021), Deadline reported Cruella 2 was in the making. Craig Gillespie (director) and Tony McNamara (writer) will return for the sequel. Rather than a remake of the former animated Disney movie, Cruella was based on 101 Dalmatians’ lead antagonist. Starring Emma Stone in the lead, the film was successful among both critics and audiences. According to a Disney spokesperson: “The film has been incredibly well received by audiences around the world with a 97% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes in addition to A’s in every demographic from CinemaScore on opening weekend, ranking it among the most popular of our live-action reimaginings.”

All We Know About Cruella 2

The sequel will probably not be a direct adaptation of 101 Dalmatians. In the sequel, Baroness will likely be out of prison and try to seek vengeance against Cruella. Baroness’s residence aka Hell Hall is likely to be a prominent feature of the sequel. Cruella 2 could also delve deeper into the fashion world, exploring ideas of faux fur vs. real fur. other characters that are likely to return are Roger, Anita, and Cruella’s henchmen, Horace and Jasper.

At the 94th Academy Awards, makeup artist Nadia Stacey spoke to Variety regarding the sequel. “They’re working on the script at the moment. My only hope is, I know nothing, but my hope is we’re moving into the ’80s…get your rollers out, lots of perms. We’d have such a new era to explore.” Due to the ongoing Hollywood strikes, the script work is likely on pause and production has yet to begin. Cruella 2 will not be released until 2025 at the earliest.
