In March 2022, CD Projekt announced that it had entered into a 15-year partnership with Epic. The companies will collaborate on Unreal Engine projects including game and engine development. Shortly after the announcement of Phantom Liberty last September, CD Projekt said this will be the only expansion for the sci-fi RPG. According to CD Projekt, Phantom Liberty will entirely overhaul the playing method of Cyberpunk 2077. Phantom Liberty will release this September 26.

Updates on the Expansion of Cyberpunk 2077

During a Q&A session, CD Projekt said a few things regarding the Phantom Liberty Sales and further expansion. “The decision has actually been made,” said Michal Nowakowski, SVP of business development. “As we have announced a long time ago, we’re not going to make a second or third expansion. This is the only expansion of the game, and it has nothing to do with the numbers and how satisfied or not we are with the sales or anything of the kind.” “It’s a technological decision, to be honest,” Nowakowski continued. “This is the last time we’re working on the Red Engine for the time being at least, and in the foreseeable future as you know we are working on the Unreal Engine from Epic. This was one of the key reasons why we decided this was the only one.”

In an interview with VGC, creative director Pawel Sasko and quest designer Despoina Anetaki said that “all the core main systems” of Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty have been “redone or updated in a major way.” During Gamescom Opening Night Live last week, Yulia Pryimak (gameplay designer) showcased some new features. The new features will be present in the base game as Update 2.0. It will be available for current-gen consoles and PCs.
