Halloween Ends is the third and final film in the Halloween Reboot trilogy. The original film released in 1978 and since then 12 Halloween films have followed, Halloween Ends being the 13th overall. All these films tried to recreate the magic of John Carpenter’s original film. The cinematography, music, offscreen violence, etc. did wonders for the original that no one is able to replicate since. The films that followed always wanted to capitalize the original’s success which is not wrong but when a product is simply banking on nostalgia and doesn’t offer anything else in quality, that’s a problem. Somehow all the Halloween films were worse than their predecessor. Considering this in 2018, a slight reboot was given to the franchise. The 2018’s Halloween was a direct sequel to the 1978 original film, the only film that mattered. It ignored all the movies that were there.
To everyone’s surprise the film was decent, rare for a Halloween film. The box office success of the film kickstarted a trilogy plan. However, the 2nd film in the franchise- Halloween Kills couldn’t follow through with the success or quality of the 1st. The film was a massive disappointment but somehow better than some of the other Halloween films. However, as it has the Halloween name, the film performed well at the box office. The final instalment in this David Gordon Green trilogy will come out this year. The first trailer for Halloween Ends just dropped and it looks like a conclusive addition.
Halloween Ends Trailer Out!
The trailer starts with a near replica shot of how the original film started. A long POV shot of Michael Myers going through a house before he kills Laurie. In the original film it was Michael’s sister who fell victim to him but here Laurie is ready for him. The music of the film is also the classic composition that John Carpenter had composed. Since the original, that music has had its own legacy. We get some shots of other characters in the film.
Mostly when Michael is about to kill them. We still don’t know how many deaths we’re going to witness in this film but seeing the trailer the count looks high. We get an awesome shot of Michael standing in a house that is burning. This is an iconic shot that we’ve seen in previous Halloween films as well. This film looks more like a traditional hero-villain story than a slasher as many shots in the trailer feature a showdown between Michael and Laurie.
It is clear that the film is banking heavy on nostalgia, I just hope the film has its own identity and doesn’t simply hide in the shadow of the original, rather creates its own shadow. The trailer is very short, only 1.16 minute long. It felt more like a teaser but well what can you do. It is unclear as of yet why the length of the trailer is so short. Is it simply to not reveal much or is it that the film is extremely short and thus the shorter length of the trailer. Honestly, I’d love if the reason is the former.
Along with the franchise star Jaime Lee Curtis, the film also stars Andi Matichak, Will Patton, James Jude Courtney, Nick Castle, Rohan Campbell, Kyle Richards, Michael O’Leary and Omar Dorsey.
Halloween Ends is slated to release this year on 14th October 2022.
