Kantara is a Kannada language film that came out last year. It was directed by Rishabh Shetty who also the male lead of the film. The screenplay of the film is from Rishabh Shetty as well. The film’s premise surrounds, “A bunch of villagers who hunt for living are made to vacate their present living place due to unforeseen notice. How they save themselves from the situation by finding the real culprit forms the crux of the story.” Since its release the film had gotten great reviews. To the point where a number reputed websites have called it the best Indian film of the year. Now, I’m not the one who watches a lot of content from southern India. If a regional film is able to pierce into my circle then it means that it has a become sensation for a non-language speaking belt as well.
By all regards, Kantara was a sensation, which made me watch it but after watching it I was much disappointed. I didn’t like the film, if I’m being honest, it was a highly overrated film with the lore being the only thing that worked in its favor. Otherwise, the story was extremely generic and it was just another South Indian film which was for some reason glorified. I didn’t resonate with the film but that is just my opinion, yours can obviously differ. Anyways, the success of the film was unsurmountable, on a budget of 16 crores the film earned over 400 crores worldwide. This amount of success did raise the question will we see anymore from the Kantara world? Did you assume a sequel? Nope, it seems like Rishabh Shetty is planning a prequel instead.
Kantara Prequel In The Works!
Rishabh Shetty in a recent appearance thanked the audience for their love and support. The actor, director and writer also took this opportunity as an opportunity as he announced that there is more coming from the world of Kantara. He announced that there is a prequel of Kantara in the works which is likely to come out next year. Shetty said, “We are very pleased and thankful to the audience who had shown immense love and support to ‘Kantara’ and taking the journey ahead, with the blessing of almighty Daiva the film has successfully completed 100 days and I would like to take this opportunity to announce the prequel of ‘Kantara’.”
Shetty continued, “What you have seen is actually Part 2, Part 1 will come next year. The idea flashed into my mind while I was shooting for ‘Kantara’ because the history of Kantara has more depth to it, and currently, if the writing part is concerned we are in the middle of digging into more details.”
Vijay Kiragandur, the founder of Hombale Films also talked about the sequel and praised Rishabh Shetty and company, “Kantara introduced the audience to a new cinema altogether and we would love to sustain and in fact boost the rage that the film has created among the audience on the screens by announcing the sequel, as the film has now completed its 100 days.”
“Rishab and our team have been working on the story rigorously as the film has many more things to tell to the audience while opening the back story of Kantara and we can just guarantee that the sequel of Kantara is going to be more massive and grand than before” Kiragandur said.
Kantara is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video and Netflix.
