Knock at the Cabin

I think everyone one of us have heard about the director of Knock at the Cabin, M. Night Shyamalan. We will all have different feelings associated with him. For some he might just be an overrated filmmaker, for some he might be someone who used to be good or for some he might the reason they fell in love with films. Whatever it is we can’t deny that Shyamalan absolutely shook the world with Sixth Sense in 1999. The plot twist at the end of the film is regarded by many as the greatest plot twist in the history of cinema and rightfully so. However, this didn’t reflect back well with Shyamalan as after this film he began to think that every venture of his should have a twist like that at the end, even if it doesn’t need one and well that didn’t end well. He was hoisted by his own petard.

He made Signs and Unbreakable which were once again extremely successful and critically acclaimed however, it was from The Village where people began to notice a decrease in quality of the films and increase in ambition. He made films like The Happening, After Earth, Lady in the Water and The Last Airbender that were thoroughly underwhelming. However, in 2016, he returned with Split that was a good Shyamalan film after a long time. Then in 2019, he made Glass that wasn’t amazing but wasn’t bad either. His latest venture Old had an extremely intriguing premise but the story didn’t follow through. After all this, I still look forward to his films and I was excited for Knock at the Cabin for two reasons.

I like small scale thrillers / horror and because of the talent associated with it, namely Jonathan Groff and Dave Bautista. Today we’ve finally gotten the first trailer for the upcoming film and it is everything you’d want it to be- an intense survival thriller.

Knock at the Cabin Trailer: Dave Bautista Steals the Show?

Knock at the Cabin is based on the National best selling novel The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul G. Tremblay. The novel was published in 2018 and it seems like it made an impression on lot of people including M. Night Shyamalan. The screenplay for the film is written by M. Night Shyamalan, Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman. The trailer is seems extremely intriguing and full of tension. I really like the cinematography of the film- wide, rich, beautiful shots.

From the trailer the premise of the film looks like a family consisting of a gay couple and their daughter go on a vacation in the woods where their vacation turns into a nightmare after 4 unknown and dangerous looking people invade their house to give them the choice that is supposed to save the world from the apocalypse. I really like that they’ve taken a gay couple at the center of attention. Dave Bautista is absolutely terrifying in the trailer. I like how the trailer didn’t give away anything major regarding the film, only teased us.

Tremblay the author of the original book talked about adaptations, he said, “I honestly spent a chunk of my 2022 spring quelling internet rumors and putting out Twitter fires connecting the book and movie,” Tremblay revealed. “It reached a point in early June where that became impossible, however, with all the information out there, including the IMDb page. I have been doing my part to be respectful of movie marketing desires and certainly wouldn’t dream of spoiling anything.”

Knock at the Cabin stars Bautista, Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, Nikki Amuka-Bird, newcomer Kristen Cui, Abby Quinn and Rupert Grint.
