Nicolas Cage's National Treasure 3 Confirmed, Scripting Begins

Nicolas Cage is on a roll and his fans just can’t get enough of him. Just a month ago The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent was released which was lauded by the fans and critics alike. It will surely be up for the Oscar race next year and Nicolas Cage himself is quite close to receiving his third nomination. Anyways, he’s got quite a few movies lined up for him including The Retirement Plan, The Old Way, Butcher’s Crossing, Face/Off 2 and Renfield. Add to all that National Treasure 3, which this article is all about.

National Treasure 3 Teased by Bruckheimer

If you are unaware, Jerry Bruckheimer is the producer of the Top Gun Franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise and Nation Treasure Franchise among many. As it happens he has worked a lot with Nicolas Cage and he recently offered a big update about the long awaited National Treasure 3. His comments at the latest Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything), he made fans quite hopeful that the Cage trilogy will be completed. Here’s what he said about the matter.

Absolutely. I love Nicolas, he’s a brilliant actor and we are currently working on a script for National Treasure.

Although, he did not mention “National Treasure 3” precisely what else could it be? A Nation Treasure TV Series? A spin-off? Seems unlikely, although a TV series has been greenlit by Disney Plus. So, most definitely he meant Nation Treasure threequel itself when he said “National Treasure”. So, this basically doesn’t just confirm the existence of a new project, but also confirms that the pre-production has begun.

The National Treasure franchise is an American historical fiction action franchise which consists of two released theatrical films and a prequel book series. It follows a family of treasure hunters, named the Gates, who search for the preservation of lost valuables from the history of the US. The series features Nicolas Cage as  Benjamin Franklin Gates and is often compared to films like Indiana Jones or The Da Vinci Code.

The first film National Treasure was released in 2004 and the second installment National Treasure: Book of Secrets came out in 2007. Though, both of them weren’t exactly critical hits, they were enjoyed by the fans and have a cult following. Ever since 2007, fans have been waiting for more updates and this is the most significant update on National Treasure 3 since a decade. This once again proves that in today’s entertainment dominated world, anything is possible.
