Oppenheimer - Christopher Nolan Film's Official Trailer Released!

Oppenheimer is Christopher Nolan’s next venture after Tenet (2020). It is Nolan’s 12th film of his entire career after he started with Following in 1998. After that Nolan cemented his place in Hollywood with Memento- a twisted story of memory, love and time. His non-linear narrative style had stunned everyone, as it gave a simple story depth and meaning. Since then Nolan became a household name to the point where Warner Bros. signed an exclusive deal with him to only make films for them. After Insomnia, Nolan negotiated the terms of his deal where he suggested a Quid Pro Quo scenario to WB. He’d make one film that Warner Bros. want him to make and the next film would be the one he wants to make. As WB agreed to this, Nolan unknowingly made the one of the best decisions of his life.

He started working on the Dark Knight Trilogy that raised the bar of Superheroes films forever. After Batman Begins, which is a truly underrated film that shows a very grim version of Gotham, Nolan made the best comic book to ever grace this Earth- The Dark Knight. His impeccable screenplay and Heath Ledger’s brilliant iteration of the Joker made this film a true masterpiece. After this film, Christopher Nolan’s works’ scale just kept on getting more and more audacious. Be it The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk or Tenet. In each film Nolan wanted to do something bigger. It felt like Nolan had forgotten to make a good small scale drama, a genre that he once excelled in for example The Prestige or Memento.

After Tenet’s messy plot everyone was of the opinion that Nolan should try to make a drama once again. Guess what? He did and today just weeks after we’d gotten the official poster, we have our first trailer for Oppenheimer.

Oppenheimer Trailer Released Online by Universal Studios!

Oppenheimer’s trailer was first released in theatres along with Jordan Peele’s Nope. Considering the trajectory of Nolan’s trailers, we’d predicted that the trailer won’t be released online until later this year, similar to Tenet. However, to everyone’s surprise, maybe even for Christopher Nolan, we have the first trailer of Oppenheimer official released. Universal might things a little differently than Warner Bros. This is the same trailer that was being showcased in theatres before Nope. We’d covered the leaked trailer which looked exactly like this.

The trailer looks absolutely phenomenal and Cillian Murphy is surely convincing as Dr. Oppenheimer. We don’t see anybody else in the trailer except for him. We do hear voiceovers from Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr. The trailer mostly features shots of the explosion and devastation of the Nuclear Bomb. The film is shot in B/W but it seems like the explosions will be in color, at least in the trailer they’re. This brilliant juxtaposition adds another layer to the film. The trailer was amazing as it didn’t reveal anything of the plot but simply wowed us. That’s what trailers are supposed to do. Let’s hope the film is as amazing as the trailer.

The story of the film is adapted from Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin’s book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer will be the first film to be shot in B/W and IMAX. The film is made on a hefty budget of $100 Million. The film basically has half of Hollywood in it including Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Alden Ehrenreich, David Krumholtz, Kenneth Branagh, Gary Oldman, Casey Affleck,  Michael Angarano and without a doubt Michael Caine.

Oppenheimer is set to release on 21st July 2023.
