What is Christopher Nolan’s next venture? This is a question that we’ve all pondered whenever we witnessed one of his films or rather spectacles. His films have a certain distinct quality to it that makes it stand out. Even if Nolan’s films aren’t part of a big franchise like the MCU, his films are always hyped up because of his unique storytelling style and the themes explored in it. After his sci-fi espionage thriller Tenet, everyone was wondering what will Christopher Nolan do next as it seemed he’d exhausted all the Science Fiction ideas he had had with back to back Sci-Fi projects. Fans yearned Nolan to make a good drama as he has excelled in that genre previously. It seems like Christopher Nolan concurs with his fans as he is indeed taking a break from his sci-fi right now and working on a biographical drama called Oppenheimer.
The film is based on Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin’s book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, which explores the development of the atom bomb during WWII. “The epic thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.” The film basically has half of Hollywood in it, including Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Alden Ehrenreich, David Krumholtz, Kenneth Branagh, Gary Oldman, Casey Affleck, and Michael Angarano. Yesterday we’d gotten the first poster of the film (read it here), and now the first teaser is out as well… I mean kind of.
Christopher Nolan’s Next reveals Teaser but only in Theatres!
The timing of the poster coming out was a very intended coincidence as Jordan Peele’s Nope is being released worldwide today and we get the poster of the new Nolan film a prior to it. As both films are produced by Universal Pictures because Nolan ended his long-term relationship with Warner Bros. due the studio’s hybrid release strategy, Oppenheimer’s teaser is attached to the theatrical cut of Nope. You heard that right, even if the film is in post production there is a teaser out there.
Before you witness Jordan Peele’s horror bonanza, you’d also be one of the first people to take a look at Christopher Nolan’s newest film. From the initial screenings we’ve gotten a description of what the teaser looks like. According to CBR, the teaser looks something like this,
The teaser begins with Emily Blunt as Katherine Oppenheimer saying, “The world is changing, reforming. This is your moment.” A countdown of “11 months, 24 days, 15 hours, 29 minutes” appears on-screen, suggesting that Oppenheimer will count down toward the day “the world changes forever,” as the film’s tagline reads on the poster and teaser. Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss is also heard calling Oppenheimer “the man who moved the earth” as the title card appears onscreen. The teaser ends with “footage of fire and smoke … intercut between black-and-white shots of [Cillian] Murphy as [J. Robert] Oppenheimer.”
Oppenheimer is not the first Nolan film to adopt this pattern for releasing its trailer. It is quite a signature Nolan move as he’d done the same with Tenet when the film’s trailer was attached to Hobbs & Shaw in August 2019.
Watch Oppenheimer Trailer Here!
If history is a witness then Oppenheimer’s teaser is not going to surface online anytime soon. As mentioned above, Tenet’s teaser was revealed in theatres in August 2019 but it wasn’t until December 2019 that we it was released online. So Oppenheimer could follow the same route where the trailer/teaser might release online around November-December 2022. This is a bummer for a lot of people as if they’re not planning to watch Nope they won’t be able to see the teaser.
Also, Nope is releasing on 22nd July but not everywhere, in India the film will be released on 19th August 2022. That means we Indians have to wait around 1 month for Nope and more so to see the teaser for Oppenheimer. This as well, is an assumption based on that Universal Pictures does attach the teaser to Nope’s cut released in India one month later. So, if you’re lucky enough to watch Nope today, you’d be able to see Oppenheimer’s first teaser.
However thanks to the internet, the teaser has been leaked online. Here’s a link for the teaser. PS – It is entirely possible that the trailer has been removed due to copyright issues. In case that happens inform us
