Oppenheimer

Oppenheimer is Christopher Nolan’s next venture after Tenet (2020). It is Nolan’s 12th film of his entire career after he started with Following in 1998. After that Nolan cemented his place in Hollywood with Memento- a twisted story of memory, love and time. His non-linear narrative style had stunned everyone, as it gave a simple story depth and meaning. Since then Nolan became a household name to the point where Warner Bros. signed an exclusive deal with him to only make films for them. After Insomnia, Nolan negotiated the terms of his deal where he suggested a Quid Pro Quo scenario to WB. He’d make one film that Warner Bros. want him to make and the next film would be the one he wants to make. As WB agreed to this, Nolan unknowingly made one of the best decisions of his life.

He started working on the Dark Knight Trilogy that raised the bar of Superheroes films forever. After Batman Begins, which is a truly underrated film that shows a very grim version of Gotham, Nolan made the best comic book to ever grace this Earth- The Dark Knight. His impeccable screenplay and Heath Ledger’s brilliant iteration of the Joker made this film a true masterpiece. After this film, Christopher Nolan’s works’ scale just kept on getting more and more audacious. Be it The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk or Tenet. In each film Nolan wanted to do something bigger. It felt like Nolan had forgotten to make a good small scale drama, a genre that he once excelled in for example The Prestige or Memento.

After Tenet’s messy plot everyone was of the opinion that Nolan should try to make a drama once again. Guess what? He did. Oppenheimer is a grounded tale of an important figure in history. Earlier this year, we’d gotten a glimpse of the film as a teaser trailer was released along with the first poster. The poster absolutely broke the internet. Since then months have passed where we have had no updates regarding the film but that changes today, alongside Avatar: The Way of Water, Nolan has released the first IMAX trailer for Oppenheimer!

Oppenheimer First Trailer’s Description Revealed!

As the trailer has not surfaced online, a lot of you must not have seen it. Only the people who went to see Avatar: The Way of Water must’ve witnessed the spectacle themselves. Not to worry though, as we have a description of what happened in Oppenheimer ‘s first IMAX trailer. According to a source at The Direct, the trailer showed:

The Trailer opens with Cillian Murphy’s Robert Oppenheimer climbing the ladder to a tower in the desert. This likely marks the site of the “Trinity” test, the first-ever detonation of a nuclear weapon taking place under Oppenheimer’s Manhattan Project in the New Mexico desert.

Meanwhile, Matt Damon’s Leslie Groves – who directed the Manhattan Project and oversaw the Pentagon’s construction – narrates the shot, describing Murphy’s scientific genius as “a dilettante, a womanizer, unstable, theatrical, neurotic” before cutting to a conversation between the pair:

Groves: “Why don’t you have a Nobel Prize?”

Oppenheimer: “Why aren’t you a general?

Groves: “They’re making me one for this?

Oppenheimer states that “We can end this war… if we put me in charge” before further footage shows the secluded laboratory being set up for the project. Murphy’s lead can be seen driving up to the desert site, accompanied by the first look at his on-screen wife, Emily Blunt’s Katherine Oppenheimer.

The Oppenheimer trailer shows “The Gadget,” aka the first atomic bomb that was used in the Trinity test under construction before Murphy’s Oppenheimer gazes upon in being lifted into a tower as the background behind him fades into a nuclear blast.

After this point, the thriller aspects of Nolan’s flick begin to come through as Oppenheimer converses with Tom Conti’s Albert Einstein, who reveals to him the possibility that the blast could “ignite the atmosphere.”

These concerns begin to spread that this weapon could destroy the entire world, while Oppenheimer insists that the chances of that are “near zero.” The finishing touches are put on “The Gadget” and those involved in the project look upon the test site as a hand lingers over the infamous big red button.

The trailer ends with a shot of the weapon before cutting to Robert Downey Jr.’s Lewis Strauss in a black-and-white hearing, in which he simply utters, “Well, we all know what happened later.”
