Disney had dropped Johnny Depp from his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The studio wanted to make a political statement by establishing a no tolerance policy against crime against women. Amazing. However, they were not ready to drop their Pirates of the Caribbean franchise as money is paramount. So, as they’d dropped Depp they had to replace him with someone to continue to franchise but instead of replacing Depp with a male actor, Disney planned to develop another film, let’s call it Pirates of the Caribbean 6, with a female lead and for a long time it was believed to be Margot Robbie. However, a recent update tells us otherwise.
The Female Led Pirates of the Caribbean 6 Will Have A New Star!
A Twitter handle called @RPK_News1 reported that Margot Robbie is no longer in the running to play Jack Sparrow in the female led Pirates of the Caribbean 6. The project was in discussion for a long time and both the producers and actress had shown interest in the venture. However, now suddenly the studio seems to be looking for a new actress to take over.
The report further says that Ayo Ediberi from The Bear series is in consideration to play the role of Captain Jack Sparrow. I haven’t seen The Bear, but I’ve heard great things about the show. I haven’t seen any work of Ayo Ediberi to comment on her casting. However, I’m not too sure how the fans will react on her replacing Johnny Depp in arguably his most iconic role.
Whoever was going to replace Depp would’ve faced backlash but when you think someone of Margot Robbie’s stature, you can expect fans to be a little gentler. Well, it is what it now. Let me know your thoughts on the potential casting.
The female led Pirates of the Caribbean movie doesn’t have a release date at the time of writing.
