Poor Things Online Release Date!

Yorgos Lanthimos is relatively a young director, but dare I say he is an absolute maestro at his craft? I mean just check out his films. I don’t like to fanboy over someone on this forum but my god how can someone deliver so consistently with his films? In the world of Christopher Nolans, Martin Scorseses and Steven Spielbergs, Yorgos Lanthimos is cut from a different metal. No two films of his will ever be the same. You’re not a cinephile if you haven’t seen Lanthimos’ work. However, it is never too late as you canquickly watch The Favorite and Lobster. Trust me, you’ll thank me afterwards. By now you have figured that I admire Lanthimos’ work.

Well, so imagine my angst when his new directorial has been kept away from me for almost a year – Poor Things. The film has been making rounds at films festivals for a while. Ever since its debut last year, the film was a favorite at almost every major award show. Finally, the film was made available for the US public in December. Although, an India release always evaded the Emma Stone starrer. Despite massive interest in urban Indian cities there was no attempt to bring the film in theatres. Although, this was not my breaking. I lost my cool completely when Poor Things wasn’t even available on any online platform.

How can the world be so cruel? However, all of these things are irrelevant now. Searchlight Pictures has finally set an online release date for the film.

Poor Things Digital Release Date Finally Revealed!

When To Stream reveals that Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things will finally be available for purchase or rent on digital and VOD platforms like Vudu, Amazon Prime Video and Apple iTunes from February 27th, 2024. This announcement will finally ease mids of so many fans like me who were frustrated at the absence of an online debut date.

After launching in February digitally, the comedy-drama from Yorgos Lanthimos will also arrive on physical formats like Blu-ray and DVD on March 12th, 2024. The full list of special features that come with Poor Things’ Blu-ray copy are below:

The film was also named one of the top 10 films of 2023 by the American Film Institute and the National Board of Review. It bagged 11 nominations at the 77th British Academy Film Awards and the 96th Academy Awards, including Best Actress and Best Picture.

Last month, the film also took home two Golden Globe Awards: Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Actress – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for Stone. At the time of writing, the Emma Stone starrer has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 92% from 346 reviews (audience score: 79%) and an IMDb score of 8.4/10.

Not only was the film a critical success but generated amazing numbers at the box office as well. Made on a budget of $35 million, Poor Things has earned $81 million so far. For an unconventional and artsy film like Poor Things, this is a huge number.

Poor Things was directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and written by Tony McNamara. It stars Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Christopher Abbott, and Jerrod Carmichael, and is based on the 1992 novel by Alasdair Gray. The plot follows Bella Baxter, a young woman in Victorian London, who is resurrected by a scientist following her suicide and embarks on an odyssey of self-discovery.

Poor Things released in theatres on December 8th, 2023.
