Yes, we’re here to talk about the Deadpool 3 teaser. Despite the Super Bowl ending in one of the biggest upsets ever, everyone on the internet only seems care about this multiversal meta adventure from Marvel that will have our Merc with a Mouth in the forefront. It has been a while since a superhero movie generated this level of buzz. The last I remember was 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. As a cinephile I’m elated to see people excited about movies again as after the “Barbenheimer” phenomenon of 2023 movies were once in a post apocalyptic wasteland. However, I can’t pretend to love something just out of its consequences. Which is why I’m saying I hated the Deadpool 3 teaser!

I Hated The Deadpool 3 Teaser!

Don’t label me a purist just after reading the title. Hear me out. I’m not a lunatic to randomly hate something for no reason. Today morning I woke up and saw that the much awaited Deadpool 3 teaser was out. Of course, now the film has been officially titled as Deadpool & Wolverine. Before I pressed the “watch now” button, I took a deep breath.

2.25 minutes later, I was confused. The trailer started exactly as I expected however, those expectations just ran for a long time. Firstly, a 2.25 minutes runtime for teaser is quite long. Now, consider the entire teaser is all about the fact that Deadpool is coming to Marvel. Yes, the entire plot of the film is basically Disney’s acquisition of Fox.

We all knew that the film would be an entry gate to introduce all the X-Men but I don’t think or at least believe that a film needed to be so meta that the actual plot of it is the behind the scenes making of it. The first Deadpool film is the best example of how a film can be meta but still tangible. If a film becomes so self aware that we’re constantly told “it is just a film”, then it takes you away from the experience.

The problem with Deadpool 3’s extreme meta treatment is that it will make us all other MCU films feel inconsequential. Deadpool will become like a higher being that understands all of these are just movie characters while other characters don’t. How will that ever allow us to completely immerse ourselves in a crossover event? Deadpool’s existence will constantly remind us, don’t take this seriously, after all it’s just a film.

Marvel doesn’t know how to create characters who break the fourth wall. They always overdo it. Take She-Hulk for example. It is one of the worst fourth wall breaking series of all time. If you want to break the fourth wall then please do it like Fleabag. Where the character breaks the wall only to confide in the audience, making them feel involved.

However, I’m afraid Marvel is going to go overboard and try to be as meta as possible. If they make it like She-Hulk’s finale then Deadpool 3 will be one of the worst movies of the year. But does it matter? Not really. The hype for the film and the huge fanbase will anyways fill Marvel’s bank. As usual, superhero fans will eat up anything. But who cares? Its just business.

Shawn Levy is directing Deadpool 3 from a screenplay he co-wrote with Rhett Rheese, Paul Wernick, Zeb Wells and Reynolds himself. This accounts Levy’s third collaboration with Reynolds after previously working on Free Guy and The Adam Project. The film’s supporting cast will include returning Deadpool cast Karan Soni as Dopinder, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio.

Deadpool 3 is slated to release on July 26th, 2024 in MCU’s Phase 6.

1 thought on “Deadpool 3 Teaser Is Just Bad… Where’s the Plot?

  1. Movie looks amazing, I understood the plot along with millions of others, TVA after Deadpool for jumping around and changing timelines, they travel throughout the multiverse running into other hero’s, villains , and alternate versions of themselves along the way trying to fix the incursions they created.
