Napoleon reunites Phoenix and director Ridley Scott two decades after Gladiator which starred Phoenix as the main antagonist. The film is bound to be a huge critical and commercial success and we have some cool BTS for you.
Movie’s First Look and BTS
While we saw Phoenix’ first look as Napoleon Bonaparte (featured image) a few weeks ago, we now have some explosive BTS footages. The footage attached below showcases an explosive battle scene right after we hear the word “Action”.
As some of you may know the filming for Napoleon is taking place in Malta, it seems like Scott has converted it to battlefield. Also, the actors and extras could be seen donning French military garb as they are seen running across the set. That aside, a historical-style French warship was spotted near the coast of the island and posted on the Lovin Malta Instagram account.
Finally, Mdina, known as the Silent City in Malta, has completely been transformed into a historical version of Paris for Napoleon. In the following images, you can see Mdina covered with French flags and prop store signs throughout the walkways of the city. It is creating a full fledged illusion of going back in time. Napoleon Movie Release Date, Cast, and Plot
Ridley Scott’s Napoleon stars Joaquin Phoenix as Bonaparte, Vanessa Kirby as Empress Joséphine, Youssef Kerkour in an undisclosed role, and Tahar Rahim as Paul Barras. The film will depict Napoleon’s rise to power from the perspective of his addictive and volatile relationship with Empress Joséphine. Napoleon will reportedly feature six major battle sequences including the Battle of Waterloo. So, unlike other films about Napoleon, such as Waterloo (1970), Scott’s film will be high on action and will feature multiple battles.
Film’s original working title was Marengo, a reference to the Battle of Marengo (1800). But in January 2022, producer Kevin J. Walsh said the film had been retitled Napoleon. So, the film is set to showcase an overview of Napoleon’s life rather than just a battle or two. It will surely feature some intense emotional moments as well just like Scott’s Gladiator. Talking about Gladiator, Ridley Scott has stated that once he’s done with Napoleon, his next project will be Gladiator 2. As for Napoleon’s release date, the film is scheduled to come out sometime in 2023. This is quite a realistic timeline considering that the filming hasn’t been wrapped up yet. So, even if the filming wraps up by the end of summer, we won’t see the movie before early 2023.
