The master of body horror, David Cronenberg is back with his sci-fi horror film Crimes of the Future. Though Cronenberg had directed a film of the same name in the 1970s, this film is neither a sequel nor a remake to it. Ahead of the Cannes premiere, the makers released character posters and three teaser videos giving a glimpse of Cronenberg’s futuristic world and the characters inhibiting it. The film stars Viggo Mortensen, L’ea Seydoux, and Kristen Stewart as the main leads.

What’s the plot of Crimes of the Future?

The official plot synopsis of the film is as follows:

“As the human species adapts to a synthetic environment, the body undergoes new transformations and mutations. Accompanied by his partner, celebrity performance artist Saul Tenser showcases the metamorphosis of his organs. Meanwhile, a mysterious group tries to use Saul’s notoriety to shed light on the next phase of human evolution.”

Viggo Mortensen stars as Saul Tenser, a man who grows new organs inside of his body as part of “Accelerated Evolution Syndrome”. He and his partner Caprice (Lea’Seydoux) have turned the discovery and removal of these new body organs into performance art.

The character poster for Viggo Mortensen’s Saul Tenser is released and Cronenberg fans have given the name Ear Man after mesmerized by the stunning reveal of his appearance. Check out the poster below.

The makers also released three special teasers on the occasion of Cannes Premiere.

Surgery is the new Sex

The first teaser follows National Organ Registry agent Timlin (Kristen Stewart) and Tenser as Timlin attempts to seduce the latter in a rather weird way.

The second teaser has Timlin walking up to Tenser and Caprice after a show. This is when Timlin utters the “Surgery is the new Sex” line.

The third teaser shows Tenser encased in some sort of a pod and Caprice is about to perform some sort of surgery on him ,while the crowd looks the process as some live-art performance.
