Last year was a really good year for horror films. Out of my 15 favorite films of the year, 5 of them belonged to the horror genre. 2023 unfortunately hasn’t been the same. Horror films this year are scarce and good horror films are practically extinct. Evil Dead Rise was good but not as awesome as people claimed. Knock at the Cabin was a dud, The Boogeyman impressed no one and Cobweb went completely off the radar. We still have 4 months left and some more horror films to come, hopefully the year will get better. With this same hope, I went to see Talk to Me, a film that was quoted to be the scariest film of the year. Was it? Not at all. In my opinion, another overrated woke horror film. However, it did have some interesting concepts that I wish the film would’ve tapped into. If you wish the same then you’re in luck as a prequel for Talk to Me is in the work.
The Talk to Me Prequel Will Further Delve Into The Mythology!
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Philippou brothers said they’ve already filmed a Talk to Me prequel focusing on Duckett and his experiences with the embalmed hand. They also went on to say that the prequel is shot completely different than Talk to Me in the hopes that there would be a Talk to Me 2 in the sequel. Their full statement is below:
“We actually shot an entire Duckett prequel already. It’s told entirely through the perspective of mobile phones and social media, so maybe down the line we can release that. But also while writing the first film, you can’t help but write scenes for a second film. So there’s so many scenes. The mythology was so thick, and yeah, if A24 gave us the opportunity, we wouldn’t be able to resist. I feel like we’d jump at it.”
Talk to Me is directed by Danny and Michael Phillipou and is based on a concept by Daley Pearson. This their debut film and for a debut they have a hefty production of $4.5 million. It is an A24 presentation, which means it is guaranteed quality. This horror flick also actors some of the most up and coming stars of our generation like Sophie Wilde, Zoe Terakes, Miranda Otto, Chris Alosio and Otis Dhanji.
