Thanksgiving is a new horror-slasher film, which is evidently set during the holiday of the pilgrims. The film’s premise is extremely intriguing focusing on, “an axe-wielding maniac terrorizes residents of Plymouth, Mass., after a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy. Picking off victims one by one, the seemingly random revenge killings soon become part of a larger, sinister plan.” Eli Roth is at the helm of affairs who we all recognize from Inglorious Basterds as he had a supporting role in the film. But, Roth is also a filmmaker known for films like The Green Inferno, Knock Knock, etc. As Thanksgiving had such an amazing critical and financial response in its early days of release, that Sony Pictures wasted no time in announcing a follow-up sequel for the film.
Thanksgiving 2: Eli Roth To Return As Director!
Thanksgiving 2 has been officially announced by Sony Pictures and Eli Roth. What started as a parody trailer, has now grown into an all out horror franchise. Roth and Sony took to Instagram to make this announcement. This comes off the heels of Thanksgiving performing brilliantly worldwide. The film has accumulated $29.6 million until now against a budget of only $15 million. It is important to note that the film has not opened up in all markets as of now. In the announcement, Roth also made it clear that writer Jeff Kendell and him are “gonna take a year off so we can really really write a great script.” He also revealed that the sequel is set for a release in 2025, “probably around Thanksgiving.”
