Mario is the mascot of Nintendo that debuted as a character in the game Donkey Kong in July 1981. After that it got his own game under the Nintendo banner. The arcade game Mario Bros. came out in 1983 which had Mario as one of the primary characters in the game. The successor of this game was Super Mario Bros. that came out in 1985. The success of these games lead to the games being converted into a franchise. It is now the central series of the greater franchise. At least one SM game has been released for every major Nintendo video game console. The success and influence of this game has been undeniable on pop culture. The game has been very impressionable on 90s kids. So much so that it became a huge IP, even outside the games.
The movies started to come, the first one being in 1993 – Super Mario Bros. Now films were always a hit or a miss. So, for a while we’ve not been getting any Mario film until it was announced that there is a new movie which would by definition would be reboot is coming out next year. What was surprising is the cast that film has, especially Chris Pratt playing Mario. The film was untitled until now but today because of a glitch it might just’ve been revealed.
Chris Pratt’s Mario movie is titled after the Mario Games?
The official Illumination Mac Gulf website which is one of the main animations studios for Illumination. The website listed the new Mario movie and it didn’t state Untitled Mario Movie. The website has listed the upcoming film under a name. That too, a name a we’re all familiar with. The film is titled Super Mario Bros. The upcoming film is named after the vintage Nintendo game that came out in 1985. It was previously assumed that the film would be named Mario.
However, the movie is named identical to the live-action Super Mario Bros. film that came out in 1993 which was a critical and commercial bomb. The upcoming film unlike the 1993 film would be an animated film. That seems to be a wise decision. A live action film for a game like this would never work well with fans or actually anyone. The website also confirmed that, in addition to Super Mario Bros, Illumination Entertainment also has Migration and Despicable Me 4 in development
Along with Chris Pratt playing the lead role, the supporting cast of the film includes Seth Rogen, Anya Taylor Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Fred Armisen and Charles Martinet. Chris Pratt’s Untitled Movie is slated to release in theatres on 7th April 2023.
